AbbVie has a career opportunity in our Process Chemistry separations laboratory as a Scientist I. This individual will work under the mentorship of a supervisor developing and performing preparative-scale chromatographic separations to purify compounds to support early and late chemical process development. The candidate will be a member of an integrated Process Research & Development team consisting of chemists and engineers. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and productive, with excellent communication skills and strong functional expertise in chemistry, biological sciences, and/or related disciplines.

Key responsibilities:

* Develop chromatographic methods for preparative HPLC and SFC purification.
* Perform routine maintenance on separations laboratory Agilent analytical and preparative chromatography instruments.
* Act as a process development representative in drafting manufacturing directions in collaboration with Technical Operations, and support scale up activities in the Chemical Pilot Plant.

Qualifications
Basic:

* MS (0-3 years) or BS degree (3+ years) in chemistry or biological sciences with relevant laboratory experience.
* Broad range of functional expertise in compound purification and spectral analysis/interpretation.
* Interprets results and uses these data, along with literature precedent and input from subject matter experts, to modify experimental plans accordingly.
* Analyzes and reports data, critically and rigorously. Prepares presentations and clearly presents data, conclusions and proposed next steps with colleagues and team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in instrumental analysis (HPLC, LC-MS, SFC, NMR) and preparative chromatography.
* Record of scientific accomplishment with author credit in peer-reviewed publications.
* Ability to independently execute a wide variety of isolation and characterization techniques utilizing modern analytical instrumentation for efficient generation of high-quality data.
