Aiken Regional Medical Centers

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.

Lab Assistant

Hours for postion:Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30am

Under the direction of the Clinical Laboratory Manager and Director of Laboratory Services, the Lab Processor is responsible for the efficient workflow processes of STAT and outreach specimens submitted to the laboratory for analysis. This associate acts as a resource to all laboratory clients and personnel.

Essential Job Duties:

* Assure proper specimen identification.
* Properly processes STAT lab specimens, and distributes them to the appropriate clinical areas in the laboratory effectively and efficiently.
* Assists with typing policies and procedures for the laboratory department when required.
* Managers time and duties effectively.
* Provides backup transcription services for pathologists.
* Answers telephone and facilitates caller's need using AIDET and Service Excellence standards.
* Maintains electronic and paper filing systems.
* Performs report editing to ensure correct formatting and accuracy.
* Pulls result reports and faxes them to physicians as requested.
* Maintains knowledge of current medical terminology.
* Performs patient registration and test ordering on specimens received from courier drop offs. Registration errors should be =<5%.
* Answers general questions regarding laboratory services and directs clients to the appropriate resources to receive requested information.
* Participates in laboratory continuing education program when required.

Qualifications

Education requirements: High school dipolma or equivalent.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Must have excellent communication skills, customer service and organizational skills. Must be proficient in using Microsoft Word. Medical terminology knowledge required.
