Recreation Therapy Assistant

Recreation Therapy Assistant
The Recreation Therapist Assistant is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for inpatient and partial patients in a behavioral health setting. This involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
Essential Core Functions:
* Utilizes a variety of techniques including, but not limited to arts, crafts, games and other activities to help patients meet their treatment goals.
* Participates in and leads structured educational/leisure groups for all patient populations as required by the Recreational Therapist.
* Documents services and patient response in medical record.
* Maintains recreation/education supplies and equipment, including purchasing supplies and materials for patient reinforcement/reward program, and holiday celebrations.
* Attends and participates in patient treatment team meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team as directed.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, activity therapy or a related human service field preferred.
* One (1) year of related experience in recreational/activity therapeutic services, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness and substance abuse, preferred.
* Knowledge of variety of recreational activities.
* Must possess ability and willingness to work professionally and effectively with staff, medical staff, patients, administration and others.
* Ability to complete documentation that is consistent with policy and good clinical practice.
