Job Description

Quality liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning and provide technical support. Work is of a technical nature using independent decision-making within the limits of general practices and standards. Some mentorship from the supervisor is available to handle unusual situations. the main focus will relate to Body Shop weld and dispense equipment. This work requires the ability to make decisions based on established procedures and is of a technical nature using independent judgment.

Execute APQP process with those Suppliers assigned to meet or exceed program work. Execute program reviews to program milestones and escalate issues appropriately. Ensure supply base adheres to GM standards and quality and manufacturing processes are enabled identify out of standards conditions while preventing them to move to the next process or manufacturing site. React to out of standard conditions are work cross functionally to resolve known issues in a timely manner. Travel up to 75% to Supplier Manufacturing sites to ensure robust quality plans are in place. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Supplier Quality Engineer's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assuring supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements.

Reviewing and approving supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) for new components and assemblies for new vehicle.

Reviewing supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.

Facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues

Performing on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues

Implementing and monitoring supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run at Rate).

Improving quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required.

Providing technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years in Quality or Engineering including welding experience with products or processes applicable to Body and Exterior automotive production.

Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.

Comprehension of geometric design and tolerance (GD&T).

Comprehension of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment and facilities.

Comprehension of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.

Ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.

Ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.

High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.

Strong oral, written and presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally

* Thorough understanding of body shop equipment & processes
* High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong verbal & written communication skills to support technology documentation and training requirements
* Ability to prioritize projects
* Knowledge of joining verification procedures and joining documentation
* Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in joining processes (weld controller, weld gun, servo, robot, riveting, projection welding, dispense, tip dressing, auto cap changer, laser)
* High level of practical problem solving



Preferred Qualifications:

OEM or Tier 1 experience in automotive Body or Body Exterior, Quality, Manufacturing, or Product Engineering.

Experience and capability in Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP.

Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality.

Capability for Statistical Problem Solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).

Experience in Product (Body/Body Exterior) Engineering.

Knowledge in all welding & joining systems and applications

Education and Training:

Bachelor's degree is required, with technical focus such as Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Welding.

Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Welding,) is preferred.
