The Advanced Electro-Optics Design and Lasers Department is currently seeking a Senior Physics Engineer II - Photonic Circuits in El Segundo, CA.
This position is responsible for design, fabrication support, and testing of internally funded (IRAD) and customer funded (CRAD) photonic integrated circuit technology for a variety of applications.
Responsibilities include participating in the multidisciplinary Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) development team on cutting edge development and demonstration programs. The candidate will join a highly motivated group of physicists and engineers working on a variety of technology development tasks. The successful applicant shall be a highly motivated self-starter able to take action with limited direction, and execute on integrated active and passive photonic devices, in III-V and Si based platforms. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to de-embed design parameters experimentally. The selected candidate will have Mask Layout experience and have the ability to work with process engineers to convert device designs into a viable fabrication process.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs to be able to obtain a US Sensitive Compartmented Information Security Clearance within first year.
Required Skills:
* At minimum 6 years of professional relative experience with a BS degree, 4 years of professional experience with an MS degree, and 2 years professional experience with a Ph.D.
* Photonic Device Design: Experience with modeling of both active and passive silicon or III-V photonic devices, such as optical waveguides, modulators, and filters.
* Experience with Mask Layout
* Understanding of the device fabrication process and experience working with process engineers to convert device designs into a viable fabrication process
* Software/programming experience with tools like EMAG Simulation Software (e.g. COMSOL, Lumerical, etc.), Matlab, LabView, and/or Python
* Ability to (1) to plan/schedule tasks (2) define hardware components, (3) interface with vendors, (4) perform data reduction and analysis, (5) document/report test results, and (6) deliver completed systems
* Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting
* US Citizenship is required as this position will require a DoD Clearance within 1st year of employment
* Ability to obtain SSBI
Desired Skills:
* Hands-on experience with photonic device assembly, integration and test efforts as well as hands-on experience with PICs and semiconductor lasers
* Experience in LaserComm with knowledge in advanced optical transmitter and receiver design; optical modulation; photonic devices; digital communications and digital hardware technologies
* Experience in task management or other lead role on development and/or production programs
* Familiarity with processes and principals of systems engineering
