Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Business Assessment is responsible for supporting the Senior Director, I&I and Internal Medicine in partnering with WW Business Development (WWBD) and the Triads to effectively champion external opportunities and support commercial assessments for the business, ensuring that there is thorough and consistent information to inform critical business development investment decisions and structure appropriate deal terms. This individual will evaluate potential equity investments, product licensing, and bolt-on M&A opportunities, and actively participate in discussions that determine the potential value of the partnership.

While focused primarily on I&I and IM, s/he will also be expected to cover other disease area opportunities (oncology, rare disease) as well as potential M&A evaluations as needed, given the teams flexible model.

The Senior Manager will be accountable for conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments on external opportunities. S/he will use these to provide strategic input into trade off decisions that may be required between investment options, ensure consistency in assessment and forecasting approaches across external or internal investment options as well as in-line asset forecasts as needed, and support the presentation of analysis and recommendations to executive governance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Develop commercial assessments of global and regional business development (BD) opportunities and present/support recommendations to senior management governance bodies
* Collaborate closely with the Senior Director, I&I + IM Business Assessment and WWBD lead to evaluate opportunities identified through search and evaluation, generate a commercial perspective on potential value and overall recommendation for opportunity to governance bodies (BU level and Pfizer level)
* Assist in gathering input from key internal expert stakeholders on the potential clinical development plan or clinical profile and commercial evaluation (e.g. Commercial Development, Customer Analytics, Medical Affairs, Patient & Health Impact, Global Marketing/Regional leaders, Global Product Development)
* Conduct qualitative and quantitative market research with external physicians and key opinion leaders both directly and through management of consulting resources while abiding by rigorous internal customer engagement protocols
* Ensure that commercial assessment of investment opportunities is rigorous, and based on common and well-supported modeling techniques and assumptions
* Develop analytically supported recommendations to facilitate investment trade off decisions across BU BD opportunities, as well as BD opportunities compared with internal pipeline investment
* Determine the appropriate level of rigor and external insights/research required depending on the timeline and decision to be made
* Demonstrate the courage to recommend not moving forward with opportunities despite limited information when needed
* Work flexibly and comfortably on multiple therapeutic areas in a matrixed team; learning and work agility is a top skill
* Occasionally support additional CBO level initiatives and evaluations using analyst reports and other secondary data

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

* 5+ years of forecasting or commercial assessment experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Understands trends in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, aware of competitor strategies, knowledge of healthcare dynamics in the US and other major global markets, understands the drug development process, and is attuned to market trends and strategies that could impact business development opportunities
* Proficiency in leading financial valuation, forecasting, business proposal and/or other related projects; working with complex information and distill into an analytic framework that helps facilitate decision making; synthesizing new areas, technologies and opportunities for executive level briefings
* Ability to provide objective recommendations for investment, factoring in strategies at a Category level and overall Pfizer growth strategy; strong presentation skills to executive level leadership at Pfizer
* Must be able to interact with executive commercial and research leaders at all levels and engage them at appropriate times in the commercial assessment process.
* Must be able to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead with indirect authority; lead cross functional teams to deliver quick turnarounds often with limited information
* Ability to think creatively and develop new solutions or approaches that will enable the teams to meet their new business goals
* Ability to work with complex information (e.g., epidemiology literature, analyst reports, secondary/claims data, primary research) and distill into an analytic framework that helps facilitate decision making
* Experience in business development process, specifically in opportunity identification, commercial assessment, and deal structure; experience in all types of business development deals including acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, joint ventures, and co-development opportunities
* BA/BS required. MBA or life sciences advanced degree preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Prior experience in biopharma marketing, life sciences consulting, and/or financial services or other analytical profession preferred
