Northrop Grumman rsquo;s Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellence located in Melbourne Florida has an immediate opening for an experienced Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in weapons integration.

Essential Functions:

* Primary role is to serve as a mechanical designer for weapons integration on the Future Carrier Aviation (FCA) program.
* The candidate will be part of a small team of mechanical design engineers supporting the preliminary design, development and integration of weapons onto the FCA platform.
* Candidate will develop draft weapons requirements documentation to capture weapon payload types and quantities, weapon suspension and release equipment (S amp;RE), and weapon loading crew access based on initial customer input.
* Candidate will also ensure these weapon requirements are represented in the overall Air Vehicle System Specification document and that they are aligned with mission systems and operational analysis to ensure weapon types, weapon quantities, and estimated weapon launch parameters satisfy target defeat requirements.
* The candidate will also develop the preliminary weapon/S amp;RE layout configurations, preliminary Interface Control Drawings (ICDs) and overall weapon carriage and release volume/clearance requirements, and coordinate them with other aircraft IPTs (such as structures and subsystems) to help define/develop hard points for S amp;RE attachment, weapon bay size, weapon bay door configuration, weapon bay door drive system, door up-locks, subsystem routing, and electrical harness routing, while also ensuring sufficient weapon bay volume exists for weapon loading crew personnel to physically and safely perform required weapon loading tasks.
* As needed, candidate must also attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
* Other responsibilities and duties include assisting IPT lead in managing team cost and schedule and mentoring junior engineers in weapons integration and mechanical design.

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of engineering experience OR Masters Degree and 7 years of engineering experience OR a PhD. Degree and 4 years of experience.
* Experience with industry standard CAD tools and processes such as NX and CATIA V5.
* An active DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
* Familiarity with NX CAD software an Teamcenter PLM.
* Prior weapons integration experience.
* Knowledge and familiarity of weapons carriage, weapons release and weapon loading/installation
