JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Environmental Services (EVS) Coordinator position is responsible for maintaining a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests and staff, coordination of day to day activities and tasks for one or more departments including Environmental Services, Linen Services, and Transportation. This position oversees department staff scheduling and assignments to ensure that department and patient needs are met in a timely manner. The EVS Coordinator position provides hands-on training for staff and monitors performance through inspections, department surveys, and/or patient interviews. Duties for this position may be varied, and include working staff assignments such cleaning, delivering linen, or transporting patients or beds; inputting inspection date into spreadsheets or digital forms or documents; positively addressing staff conflict to reach appropriate resolutions; writing daily shift or incident reports; coordinating hospital needs with Operations Administrators and departments; and analyzing employee inspections and patient interviews to determine training needs of employees while providing redirecting feedback as necessary.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 25%
1.Leads daily shift huddles, provides essential staffing and operational information and assigns tasks/units to team members using positive and effective communication. (EF)
2.Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Facilitates teamwork by anticipating the need for assistance and responding positively to requests for assistance. Makes contributions to the work effort as a whole. (EF)
3.Serves as a resource through training and mentoring, interfacing with department staff to provide feedback to management on team members performance and conduct. Collaborates/supports management for improvement of employee satisfaction, implementation of protocols and objectives with team members to result in optimization of staff performance, teamwork, patient safety, and customer service. (EF)

SERVICE - 25%
1.Conducts multiple patient/department interviews and/or rounds on a regular basis, communicating with department leadership to ensure timely and quality service. (EF)
2.Communicates regularly and positively with staff, physicians, vendors, and service providers to ensure consistent, quality services. (EF)
3.Evaluates PAR levels on unit linen deliveries and adjusts as necessary. Assesses and develops plan of action to appropriately address EVS projects, implementations and service surveys. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 30%
1.Completes multiple quality inspections to ensure a clean and safe environment in rooms and public areas as necessary. (EF)
2.Completes safety rounds with unit staff and departments to ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies including proper chemical handling, personal protective equipment supply/use, and security of carts/supplies.(EF)
3.Ensures proper supply and usage of isolation carts and presence of isolation signs for safety of patients and staff as necessary. (EF)

FINANCE - 10%
1.Coordinates daily equipment, supply, and/or linen inventory and deliveries to ensure appropriate par levels for staff and patients; supports an efficient purchasing process to reduce waste including tracking/monitoring of clean delivered to soiled returned linen ratios. (EF)
2.Monitors and manages room cleaning and transportation requests to ensure timely and efficient movement of patients as necessary. (EF)
3.Facilitates strategic staff scheduling in coordinaton with management to reduce overtime and ensure adequate coverage. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%
1.Complete regular one-on-one meetings with employees to support positive and redirective communications while building supportive relationships on an individual level. (EF)
2.Contributes ideas towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of department processes. (EF)
3.Identifies and assumes responsibility of own learning needs, consults with healthcare team experts and seeks continuing education opportunities to meet those needs. Completes and updates the individual development plan (IDP) on an on-going basis. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
oHigh School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
oBachelors Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
oOne year Environmental Services, Linen Services, or Transporation experience
oTwo years of demonstrated progressive responsibility

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
oAmerican Heart Association BLS Certification preferred
oValid Texas Driver's License preferred
oUS Department Of Transportation Hazardous Materials Certification within 90 days of employment (renewed every 3 years)
oNote: Current incumbents have 120 days from this job description revision date to acquire certification
