Research Engineering Intern, AI SW/HW Co-design

Job Description

AI SW/HW Co-design team has a mission to explore, develop and help productize high-performance software and hardware technologies for AI. Our team defines and drives AI HW roadmap at FB. In essence co-design ensures our existing software workloads are well optimized and suited for the hardware infrastructure that they are running on. Were a diverse group of problem solvers driven by a culture of experimentation and innovation. We are seeking a Research Engineering Intern to support machine learning applications to distributed systems. In this role, you will be a key member of a team of innovators, working on leading AI workloads, distributed systems, and developing architecture to enable the future of AI SW/HW co-design.

Research Engineering Intern, AI SW/HW Co-design Responsibilities

* Lead research that enables learning the semantics of data (images, video, text, audio, speech and other modalities).

* Lead research that enables AI training scale to 100s or 1000s of compute units and optimizing communication libraries.

* Work towards long-term ambitious research goals, while identifying intermediate milestones.

* Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications.

* Contribute research that can be applied to Facebook product development.

* Lead and collaborate on research projects within a globally based team.

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

* Ph.D. and publications in machine learning, AI, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, or related technical fields.

* Experience manipulating and analyzing data from different sources.

* Experience in theoretical and empirical research and for answering questions with research.

* Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers.

Preferred Qualifications

* Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

* Experience driving original scholarship in collaboration with a team.

* First-author publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. NIPS, NSDI, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).

* Experience in developing and debugging in C/C++, Python, C and/or Java.

* Experience leading a team in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
