Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician I will provide operational support to the Quality Team during the production process. They will validate compliance to product specifications through routine analyses and data collection of beer, seltzers, and other Company products. They will communicate with the rest of the Quality Team and provide feedback to production team members as needed to facilitate process improvement. This employee will work directly with our product and will be trusted with proprietary information regarding our specifications. The Laboratory Technician I will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager for the Craft & Specialty Division. The ideal candidate must be dependable, responsible and uphold Constellation Brands vision and values.

Our facility operates with the need for agility and continuous improvement, so schedule flexibility to work all shifts, including evenings and weekends is a must.

Key Responsibilities

* Daily fermentation monitoring, including but not limited to: gravities, yeast cell counts/viability/vitality, and use of GC/MS to quantify VDK and acetaldehyde

* Daily microbiological sampling, plating, and data collecting, including but not limited to: plating (direct, filter, dilutions, streaking, etc.), use of differential media, colony identification and characterization, (q-RT) PCR/endpoint PCR, DNA sequencing, and interdelta yeast identification

* Package testing, including but not limited to DO, CO2, N2, pressure, and overall packaging integrity

* Sample collection and preparation for all testing methods, both for routine analysis as well as for troubleshooting/projects

* Regular, standardized data collection and input

* Communicate out of specification data with proper analyst or management to initiate corrective action

* Participation and assistance with the on-site sensory program

* Assist quality analyst or management with various projects to improve quality/consistency and brewery processes

* Follow SOP and practice all Brewery Safety Procedures safely, efficiently, and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives

* Must perform exemplary work both as part of a team as well as independently

* Maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient workspace/laboratory

* Effectively work with other departments to identify and implement quality improvement efforts

* Assist other department responsibilities

* Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

* 1-2 years of QA/QC laboratory experience in brewing or applicable field

* College degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or related field

* Working brewing knowledge

* Ability to work flexible work schedules if necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* 1-2 years in brewing or fermentation industry

* Certification from an accredited institution (IBD, UC Davis, etc.)

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

* This is a full-time position, requiring the ability to work at least 8 hours daily.

* Ability to lift at least 50 pounds regularly.

* Required standing for long periods of time, as well as regular walking, bending, and stooping. Standing in one place is common during a scheduled shift.

* Regular and repetitive use of hands to handle, touch, and manipulate equipment, controls, and objects, including reaching with hands and arms at various heights.

* Work is conducted in a manufacturing plant, where personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and non-slip, chemical-resistant, steel-toed boots are expected to be worn at all times.

* Willingness to work in an industrial warehouse environment around machinery, forklift traffic, and loud noises.

* Ability to work safely around strong and potentially hazardous chemicals.
