The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will follow the coordinated and developed comprehensive therapeutic recreation program, including assisting patients with developing, maintaining, and expressing an appropriate leisure lifestyle.

Qualifications

Licenses or Certifications: Certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Current driver's license if approved to drive facility vehicle. Current CPR and CPI certifications (offered onsite).

Total education, vocational training and experience: Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field from an accredited college or university.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Working knowledge and experience with therapeutic recreation process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

2. Must have the visual acuity to identify, instruct, and evaluate patient's skills, affect, needs, safety, and progress.

3. Excellent verbal and written skills are required to communicate and interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, hospital staff, and the public.

4. Must be able to work with patients, families, physicians, and staff in a professional manner.

5. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

6. Ability to recognized the effect activities are having on patients and communicate concerns and/or positive progress towards goals to CRTS staff personnel.
