Discipline Chief - Simulation Digital Engineering
(Associate Director, Systems Engineering)
The Simulator Solutions & Services (SSS) Hardware and Systems Engineering department seeks a Digital Engineering Discipline Chief to lead setting the common direction, approach and processes related to digital engineering across the breadth of the SSS organization. These processes and procedures will be utilized by Systems, Hardware and Software engineers across both product lines and program projects. This individual will not be directly involved on one program, but will coordinate with the leads and PEs for all programs within STS. Candidate should have prior engineering experience with simulation systems and a strong process knowledge within Collins Aerospace. Candidates must have strong technical, leadership and organizational skills. Due to the emerging nature of this role, there is significant coordination required beyond SS&S.; As part of this effort, the Discipline Chief will also be required to set direction for the Mission Systems Common Modeling Environment (MiCMSE), where internal funding is being provided from multiple organizations.
Role Overview:
As the discipline chief you will be responsible for identifying the processes and skills required to support the innovation within this digital engineering arena. You will work closely with the architects assigned to the programs to ensure that the technology is being driven into the designs throughout all phases of the life cycle. You will be required to be the primary coordination point across the broader MiS (SSS, IMDS, AT, TTI, etc) and RTX organizations. This role also comes with a focus on mentoring and ensuring others are able to apply this mindset to their programs. The role also should show the ability to unleash energy within a team through passion and enthusiasm.
Role Responsibilities:
* Sets the direction to align to the DoD DevSecOps Initiative starting with establishing an architecture that can easily use automated build and test.
* This includes working with product/program chiefs and BD to develop roadmaps and set suggestions for internal investment.
* Participates in Collins/MiS Digital Engineering Working Groups and Sterring Comittees.
* Responsible for driving cultural and technical change across the organization to the Digital Engineering vision.
* Accountable for chairing the system and/or component design reviews
* Accountable for developing and/or maintaining standard work content related to DevSecOps as it applies to SS&S;
* Accountable for assessing design maturity and reviewing technical risk. Ensuring that the leads on the teams are properly capturing all the information
* Accountable for designs to address regulatory and customer specification requirements Working with the teams to determine a design that best suits their needs as well as the business
* Accountable for using experience to identify and apply lessons learned
* Accountable for facilitating Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) activities and corrective action boards within the discipline
* Accountable for transitioning lessons learned into applicable process improvements for the discipline
* Accountable for conducting discipline health reviews
* Responsible for Mentoring IPTs & engineers
* May lead the discipline-specific process and tools training activities
* Digital Engineering encompasses many areas which will require strong coordination and focus:
* Will be a primary SS&S; contact between MiS Digital Engineering Program Chief
* Works with Systems Discipline chief to ensure that MBSE needs and direction are taken into account for digital engineering
* Ensures that the teams are working to implement MOSA architectures and creating ITAR free solutions wherever possible.
* Looks across SS&S; productlines such as CORESIM to influence Digital Engineering techniques into MiCMSE and other Digital Twin type activities.
Basic Qualifications:
* This position requires a Bachelors degree in the appropriate discipline and 12 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required.
* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
* This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Executive Managers, Senior level engineers, and Value stream leaders across all business areas within Collins Aerospace. In addition to communication with those functional areas, show the ability to create and leverage powerful networks.
* There will likely also be tasks related to pursuit activities, including bids and proposals as well as demonstration activities.
