Position Summary


The Supervisor of Bulk Electric System Interconnection Affairs is responsible for the daily management of transmission interconnection and regulatory requirements that support the business to ensure all transmission regulatory and tariff requirements are met. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan. This position typically does not perform the work at the level being supervised, but will have individual technical and business related assignments in support of department goals. Responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily activities of employees in single or closely related fields of professional expertise. Accountable for formal supervision, coaching, counseling, safety leadership and technical guidance to assigned staff in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to technical and business objectives. The position is also accountable for the quality of the groups output and is expected to continuously improve capabilities in this area.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Lead, direct and/or assist with organizing and prioritizing work group activities and assigning and/or scheduling work duties to meet completion dates.
2. Evaluate employees for the purpose of developing organizational talent and building expertise in areas required by the department. Develop leadership skills and coordinate technical training aspects for self and employees.
3. Work with other sections/departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups or improvement committees to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and/or company.
4. Assist in the development of changes in methods or processes in assigned area of responsibility, and make recommendations for implementation. Assist in the completion of preparation, monitoring and forecasting of the department budget. Assist in the coordination of development of section and department goals and metrics.
5. Supervise, direct and provide guidance to employees. Conduct performance assessments for assigned staff.
6. Research and analyze technical and/or business plans, designs, proposals, projects or strategies; provide results and/or recommendations in support of department objectives.
7. Review, revise and communicate department/section/group procedures in support of administrative and technical improvement initiatives. Responsible for the application of organizational policies. Elevate and reinforce a strong safety culture within the work group, through daily leadership, communication and behaviors.
8. Set priorities to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with other supervisors, acting as a liaison with other sections or departments.
9. Oversee the transmission customer method of supply request for transmission service changes.
10. Supervise development of generator interconnection agreements between PPL EU and the generator owners.
11. As the main interface with interconnection customers, ensure responses to study requests from generator developers are completed within required PJM tariff timeframes.
12. Provide required oversight to ensure agreements are executed with neighboring Transmission Owners prior to commencement of work as specified by PJM.
13. Actively participate in PJM Planning Committee, Transmission Expansion Advisory Committee and other related planning task force meetings. As a PJM Planning Committee member, review and recommend strategies and policies to ensure reliability and operational flexibility of the Bulk Electric System.
14. In-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules.
15. Physical presence in the office/on-site to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
16. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration.

Basic Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, business, economics, finance or related discipline.
2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in any combination of regulatory, legal, contract managment or utility (or similar industry) client/customer relations.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to work across all levels of the organization.
5. Sound judgment and issue resolution skills.

Additional Requirements

This position is a safety-sensitive role. Upon acceptance of a conditional offer, all individuals in safety-sensitive roles are obligated report the use of any medication that may impair their ability to perform the job in a safe manner.

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Law degree or advanced degree in business, economics, finance or related field.
2. Knowledge of applicable FERC and RTO regulations and tariffs.
3. Experience working with PJM or other RTO.
4. Management or other team leadership experience.
