Job Description

Shift:Monday- Friday (8am - 5pm)

Function

Acts as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures.

Scope

Impacts patient care to patients in outpatient clinics under defined supervision.

Essential Job Functions

Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.

Education Required High school diploma/equivalent.

Education Preferred Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

Experience Required One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

Licensure/Certification Required None.

Licensure/Certification Preferred Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
