GDIT is searching for a Senior DevOps Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for, and lead, the hands-on Operations & Maintenance and continuous optimization of VA applications. These applications will be delivered via a Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS). In this capacity, you will work with and advise DevOps development teams, cyber security, certification planners analysts and system architects to operate and sustain the target applications, and plan for their enhancements. Responsibilities will include ensuring the attainment of contractually mandated SLO's (Service Level Objectives); the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and Run Book documentation, deployment and configuration of target applications in a cloud environment, troubleshooting of target applications in a cloud environment as well as design and development guidance, release planning, and; the evaluation of system Change Requests. Your contributions and leadership will be vital to providing a positive, high quality user experience to our nation's veterans.

The overall program supports the sustainment, operations, maintenance, and enhancement of many different applications. Known applications/technologies the project will support are SalesForce, ServiceNow, and Pega but there could be others. Many of these systems will integrate with other VA applications. Previous experience working with the target applications is desirable. Experience working in support of Federal, State, or Tribal Governments, or a health care client is highly desired. The candidate will regularly interact with VA business stakeholders, VA Line of Business leadership and VA central office client stakeholders, including the Veterans Experience Office (VEO) staff, VA OIT leadership, and COR, and is expected to document and report any issues that arise. This position will be remote with limited support required in vendor facilities and/or a government site.

Responsibililties:
* Daily operation, maintenance and optimization of the VA's applications and other cloud based platforms;
* Automating and maintaining application deployments on cloud based platforms
* Designing and Creating CI/CD piplelines for automated deployments, in a cloud platform, GitHub actions or Jenkins pipelines.
* Strong understanding of Immutable Infrastructure principles, and hands-on experience maintaining Infrastructure as Code, in a cloud environment
* Automating and maintaining application deployments.
* Support multiple DevOps teams as the CI/CD and DevOps Sherpa by implementing automated piplelines for teams and helping teams resolve pipeline related issues, and bring teams up to speed on DevOps practices.
* Production monitoring of applications
* Escalating applications issues and defects to resolve production issues
* Support system interruptions and ticket resolutions in customer required timeframes
* Review and risk assessment of Change Requests;
* Communication of any issues, problems, or risks to leadership with recommended solutions;
* Meeting attendance with program personnel and VA stakeholders and support to reporting efforts;
* Utilization of professional judgement, critical thinking skills and research to resolve issues affecting system performance.

Required skills and experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in engineering, a related scientific / technical discipline or business with at least 10 years of applicable experience
* Expertise running a 24x7x365 Software based System for at least 6 months.
* Expertise with oversight of an operations team of at least 5 people for at least one year.
* Expertise in Incident Management for a software-based system.
* Expertise with oversight of a team running a trouble ticket system.
* Demonstrated success using modern DevOps methods and tools including automated testing tools and monitoring tools.
* Demonstrated ability to drive frequent release cycles (daily/weekly).
* Experience in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in a cloud environment
* 3+ years' experience in creating, administering and maintaining cloud resources
* Experience working on maintaining infrastructure as code in a cloud environment.
* Experience managing software development projects
* Strong proficiency with Microsoft administration and productivity tools;
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
* Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting, and;
* US Citizenship or Green card holder

Desired skills and experience:
* PMP certification
* DevOps experience with one of the following: ServiceNow, Salesforce, Pega or similar platforms is highly desired.
* Cloud certifications, classes or exams;
* Previous Department of Veterans Affairs experience;
* Previous experience supporting Contact Centers, and;
* Active VA access including assigned CAG and PIV

The likely salary range for this position is $112,000 - $168,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
