Job Description

Job Description

Our Safety Assessment and Laboratory Animals Resources (SALAR) helps advance high quality drug candidates into development by defining the nonclinical safety and selectivity of lead compounds. SALAR employees evaluate Lead Optimization candidates and preclinical toxicity of drug development candidates, provide mechanistic understanding of drug-induced toxicity, and assess implications for human safety. SALAR provides collaborative research in animal model development, veterinary medical and animal care, and research facility management. Safety Assessment also responds to regulatory questions in support of drug registration.

The Investigative Toxicology (IT) Group in SALAR is looking for a Systems Toxicologist. This role will include the following primary responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

* The candidate will play a lead role in Molecular Carcinogenicity initiatives, leading efforts internally and externally. This will include the preparation of target liability assessments and Carcinogenicity Assessment Documents of drug candidates for regulatory submissions in alignment with ICH S1 guidance. This will involve diving deeply into all available data (published literature, toxicology study reports, human genomics, cancer gene databases, and target biology and pharmacologic data) to develop a weight of evidence evaluation to identify potential carcinogenicity risk.

* The candidate will also play a key role in defining and executing the overall strategy to advance several current toxicogenomic biomarkers initiatives, both diagnostic and prodromal gene expression signatures for implementation into early in vivo and in vitro derisking assays, including work in a laboratory setting.

* All of these efforts will rely heavily on strong cross-functional leadership and collaborative skills requiring the proposal, design and execution of both internal and external collaborative research in team settings.

Education Minimum Requirements:

* PhD with a minimum of 4 years of experience in an industry or academic laboratory focused on toxicology, biology, molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or related fields.

Required Experience and Skills:

* Work experience in systems toxicology and/or molecular investigative toxicology in a pharmaceutical company.

* Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, including RNA sequencing, DNA genotyping and polymorphism detection, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and mid to high density array platforms.

* Experience in developing and qualifying gene expression signatures including those for the assessment of carcinogenicity risk.

* Familiarity with data analytics and analyses tools, such as Spotfire and/or Matlab and mathematical algorithm development and validation.

* Excellent communication (oral and written), networking, and collaboration skills.
