The Opportunity

Payments Analyst - Analyst's responsibility is to support Deposit Operations with the research and processing functions related to ACH, Funds Transfer, RealTime Payments. They will handle outgoing returned items through the Federal Reserve Bank as well as research and resolution related to the external payments system (RealTime Payments).

The Work Itself

Responsible for the daily and ongoing support of new and existing product and service requests including, but not limited to:

* Partner with the Accounting team to resolve outstanding credits/debits related to ACH/Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments.
* Create customer account adjustments due to processing errors on behalf of our bank or a forward clearing bank.
* Work closely with Disputes and Loss Prevention to process outgoing ACH return items through the Federal Reserve Bank.
* Deal directly with other financial Institutions and the Federal Reserve via phone, email, or letters to resolve any outstanding issues.
* Customer contact regarding sophisticated or detailed explanations and or descriptions of transactions as required.
* Prepare a variety of debit and credit transactions to accomplish necessary corrections or adjustments, prepare reports, perform account maintenance review, review and mail account notices and account statements.
* Ensure that all cases are resolved comply with industry regulations and bank procedures; maintain the department SLAs of the department's case management system and financial controls.
* Provide support and/or direction to our business partners regarding ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments.
* Responsible for: investigate daily incoming ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments inquiries; resolve differences; answer service requests and inquiries received from various channels and departments; determine accounting entries and make appropriate disposition.
* Resolve ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments inquiries within the bank's practices and procedures.
* Perform varied clerical functions requiring research and some analysis requiring some decision-making.
* Review ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments transactions processed by the back office employees to ensure accuracy and make corrections as necessary.
* Correction examples include verification/correction of data, preparation of reports for management, creation and updating information from various sources, reconcilement and resolution of item adjustments or errors.
* Maintain internal operational and financial controls and ensure that they are observed for all assigned cases.
* Assist in analytical accounting support to the internal business partners.
* Assists in the resolution of ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments accounting issues through the appropriate channels.
* Lead and improve the processes around the assigned ACH/ Funds Transfer/ RealTime Payments activities.
* Drive audit compliance within the areas for which you are responsible.
* Contribute to ad hoc analytical projects as vital both within and beyond your primary area of focus.

The Skills You Bring

Type of prior related experience:

* 3 - 5 years of demonstrated ability in electronic banking or related banking experience.
* Knowledge of the ACH, Funds Transfers and RealTime Payments functions and ability to handle more sophisticated cases which require analytical and problem resolution skills.
* Knowledge in FRB Returns processing via FEDLine.
* Familiarity with current banking regulations and NACHA guidelines.
* Quality control and attention to detail - Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, and supervise work to ensure quality
* Knowledge of Ally Bank's products, services, and system infrastructure.
* Extensive knowledge and experience meeting service standards.
* Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office -- PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Visio.

Special skills/abilities/competencies required:

* Accounting Degree preferred.
* General accounting and/or functional skills for area of expertise.
* Preference to lead, empower, train and develop staff versus a punitive "score and report" mentality.
* Ability to collaborate with all levels of management and associates in multiple locations.
* Excellent verbal and strong written communication skills.
* Strong analytical/Investigation skills.
* Ability to raise issues appropriately to Deposit Operations Leadership.
* Ability to create and deliver effective and targeted performance updates on team status monthly and as-needed at Deposit Governance meetings.
* Ability to work in highly-matrixed environment.
