Job description:
Chemical, surface and coating scientist for developing chemical and surface measurement systems for processes and products from early research & development phases through pilot manufacturing. The focus is on understanding the chemistry of surfaces and coatings to help customers with developing characterization methodology and problem solving in these areas. The position requires expertise in chemistry and/or material science/engineering.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Subject matter expertise in chemical measurements (theory, experiments & systems) for material & product characterization, material processing including coating and thin films and process innovation. Specifically, the individual needs to identify, evaluate and conduct critical experiments in chemistry, surface and coating areas to solve business critical problems. The successful candidate will provide expertise to project teams via new instrument/tool development or new measurement development to support surface analysis, and/or chemical process measurements.
Depending on specific project assignments, responsibilities may include:
Developing cost-competitive and simplified measurement tools that could help understanding the chemistry, coating material, defects, reactivity and readiness of the surface
Developing new specialized measurement systems and methods for surfaces and coatings
Working with outside vendors for new equipment development
Providing process driven input to equipment designs or improvements
Provide measurements and results interpretation to the product development team and aid in the setting of product specifications. Manufacturing option exploration, definition and evaluation
Assignments may include problem solving in projects related to materials based products and their applications.
Study of surface features and extraction of roughness parameters

Education requirements
Masters or PhD in Chemistry, or materials science or engineering
Years and area of experience
Minimum 2 years of Experience in Chemistry or coating related fields
Required skills

Strong technical fundamentals in surface chemistry or materials science and experience in chemical measurements and processes
