Introduction

Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM is looking for an individual to help build out the Quantum hardware ecosystem. The hardware ecosystem has several benefits. The primary purpose is to help develop a rich group of vendors and researchers who are interested in improving the supply chain for building current and future needs for IBMs commercial quantum computing efforts. Specifically, this would mean interfacing with the internal IBM development team, industry, and potentially academic partners. Academic partners may have technologies that are ready for transition to the development stage which IBM can help broker. Finally, the overall ecosystem has the ability to create testbed platforms to be used at academic institutions at many levels. This has the ability to help build the future quantum workforce by supplying the tools necessary to educate the future technology experts that will be needed for building larger scale systems.

As a part of this effort, the candidate will be required to act as the intermediary and help develop consensus across all parties involved with the best outcome for IBM Quantum. The candidate should have a relatively deep understanding of the components necessary for building a superconducting quantum processor, but also have the broader scope of how this fits into a larger quantum information infrastructure, which includes quantum networking and sensing.

The candidate will help to organize worldwide efforts. This will involve coordinating existing deals and participating in strategy as to how this growth will fit into the larger IBM roadmap. We at IBM view this as an exciting position that puts IBM and the candidate squarely at the forefront of an emerging technology.

The role will be located in an IBM Research location in the NY, NY area.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
PhD in Physics or similar field, preferred experience in quantum information science with strength in quantum computation.
5+ years post degree of hardware experience
Fluent in English speaking and writing.
Facile in Microsoft products such as Word and PowerPoint.
Facile in using Latex
Ability to work in a team environment and establish consensus.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Multilingual
Ability to use Microsoft project
Ability to work with defining contract terms.
