The Mechanical Design Engineer I position is part of the Applied Engineering group within the CTO organization. The Mechanical Design Engineer I will be part of an engineering group that is responsible for material cost savings, productivity improvements, product support and class II design changes in support of OEM and R&O operations in Tempe, AZ.
The key products supported at the Tempe site include: Original equipment and repair and overhaul of Air Turbine Starters, Aircraft Valves and a wide variety of systems and accessories for aircraft, aircraft engines and other aerospace applications for both commercial and military applications. On-site activities include engineering, manufacturing, and repair and overhaul services.
The ideal candidate would be an experienced engineer with strong interpersonal skills, as the position demands frequent interaction with both internal and external customers. The candidate must be capable of exercising initiative and sound judgment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide product and technical support to the Tempe workshop by driving material savings initiatives, product support activities and Class II design changes per customer or internal requests
* Support the departments productivity goals for material savings, through Repair Development
* Identify Workscoping opportunities to improve business performance relating to reuse, repair, replace and extending maintenance manual limits
* Identify and implement aggressive cost reduction initiatives and identify external business opportunities relating to the Repair & Overhaul business
* Execute class II design changes to blueprints to enable product flow
* Operate as a team member in Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma and Honeywell Operating System (HOS)
