Dow Adhesives has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Research Scientist to join our diverse Pressure Sensitive Adhesive R&D Application team located in Collegeville, PA. The Associate Research Scientist would apply in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge to define and conduct hands on research across multiple project areas (Labels, Tapes, and others) using knowledge and proactive application of scientific principles, theory and experimental design primarily through formulation and application of pressure sensitive adhesives. Addresses problems of technical complexity, engages with multifunctional teams on identifying challenges, proposes innovative solutions accordingly, and develops Dow Proprietary state-of-art technologies with significant business impact to the company.

Responsibilities / Duties

* Conducts research on assigned projects using working knowledge of scientific principles, theory and experimental design within a scientific discipline.
* Develops and implements technical solutions through hands-on experimentation/problem-solving for research problems that are well defined within a project area.
* Generates sound research data, interpretation of results, and data handling.
* Demonstrates expertise in use of experimental/ computational/ theoretical methods.
* Participates in the innovation process as it applies to your specific projects and begin contributing to the innovation process through new opportunity identification.
* Consistently applies the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses. Learn the appropriate use of Six Sigma tools to solve complex problems.
* Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports/presentations. Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriate.
* Provides constructive input to project participants.
* Lead technical teams and coordinate technology efforts to solve series of problems within or across business/organization.

Qualifications

* A Bachelor's degree in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or science related field is required; PhD is preferred.
* 2+ years technical research experience in academia or industry.
* Formulation and applications skills in water based adhesive systems, coatings and sealants or similar.
* Experience in the pressure sensitive adhesives space with either water based emulsions formulation experience.
