Assists the surgeon at the sterile field by providing appropriate and adequate sterile instruments and other supplies during elective or emergent operative procedures. Maintains the surgical field through aseptic practices. Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse as a member of the Peri-Operative team. Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient ranging in age from newborn to geriatric. Responsible for the assembly of cases. Assists in preparation, transportation, and supervision of patient. Performs Housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in maintenance of all supplies. Continues education in operating and related aspects of nursing care. Required to schedule/take call.

Participates in process improvement initiatives.

Position Qualifications

Experience:

Prefer at least one year of scrub experience.

Licenses/Certificates:

Current American Heart Association Heartsaver/AED

National Certification through the NBSTSA, if new grad, within 180 days of graduation OR verified employment as a scrub tech prior to 9/2009 as per Texas HB 643
