Medical Science Liaisons are trusted and credible deep medical/scientific experts that provide the most relevant, reliable and unbiased scientific information to meet the unique needs of each customer and their patients, as well as Biogens clinical and medical strategies. They are dynamic; always acting within compliance guardrails, they initiate interactions and are not merely passive repositories of knowledge but seek to engage and provide the best medical and scientific information to HCPs in order to better patients lives. They are focused on building deep, strategic, long-term relationships with customers and are considered as partners, rather than being transactional in their interactions. They possess medical business savvy and customer focus while remaining non-promotionalthey can navigate discussions to balance what is useful to customers with Biogens medical strategy and bring back useful insights. They are rigorously measured both qualitatively and quantitatively and held highly accountable to their goals including the following:

Be the most trusted and credible partner to customers on medical and scientific information pertaining to disease state and companys products both pipeline and marketed medicines - to ensure their full understanding about it and ultimately share Biogens ambition to advance and drive medical practice in neuroscience

* Engage with customers as a trusted and credible medical/ scientific expert who increases their confidence in making the best clinical decisions in the near and long term for the benefit of patient care.
* Tailor the discussion and provide the most relevant, credible and unbiased scientific information to meet the unique needs of each customer and their patients, as well as Biogens clinical and medical strategies.
* Thoroughly address what is top of mind for customers while seizing opportunities to pivot the conversation compliantly and seamlessly to relevant related topics to HCPs resulting in a holistic scientific exchange that support the medical vision and Biogens ambition to advance and drive the best medical practice for patients in neuroscience.
* Focus on building long-term and valued relationships. Be rapidly responsive as well as proactive when establishing, fostering, cultivating and maintaining those relationships with customers with the end goal of developing scientific advocates
* Give input to and own thoughtful engagement plans and prepare meticulously for every interaction with relevant resources and insightful questions. However, be dynamic and flexible as needed.
* Stays up to date with therapy advances, current research, medical scientific knowledge and detailed knowledge on Biogen products & relevant Disease Areas

Extract and share back high value medical insights that help shape the medical and clinical strategy

* Stay aware and on top of the healthcare and access landscape, understanding how it impacts the customers behaviors and clinical practices
* Be open and alert in customer interactions to medical insights that can inform Biogens strategies for both pipeline and approved products
* Asses medical insights in real time during Scientific Exchange to identify and capture at least one high value insight per customer interaction through active listening and strategic high gain clinical relevant questions
* Capture and report the medical insights using Veeva with the highest level of consistency and accuracy to help inform the medical and clinical strategies and provide additional context if that is useful to the interpretation of those insights
* Proactively assess, interpret and share the most high value, business critical medical insights with their MSL Leaders in real-time

Collaborate in a compliant manner with Biogen stakeholders, particularly with the Commercial organization

* Have a strong understanding of industry rules, legal guidance and a desire to follow a compliance and ethical path
* Have the clarity and depth of understanding around compliance guardrails which allows for compliance empowered interactions. Be able to make the right judgment calls in the moment.
* Ensure the medical insights are captured through the cross functional account planning. Be responsive and add high value to the collaboration around key accounts
* Be seen by colleagues as a solution-driven conduit to leaders in the medical community
* Support R&D colleagues from the clinical development perspective and commercial colleagues while staying true to the non-promotional nature of the role. Be a partner in the trenchesengage often in person and be responsive

Lead and deliver complex activities to customers to further enhance Biogens reputation as a trusted and valued partner to customers

* Establish and maintain excellent educational collaboration with customers, other investigators and key health care institutions to build outstanding product education and medical scientific service and support
* Creatively leverage multichannel opportunities
* Navigate resources at the office and collaborate with field and non-field colleagues to deliver against the engagement plans adding high value to customers
* Contribute to the brand planning process by applying extensive knowledge of disease areas, competitive environments and customer needs.

Qualifications

* Advanced Scientific or Clinical degree is required. PharmD or PhD level is desired, not mandatory.
* Minimum 2 years of previous experience as Science Liaison to qualify the for Senior level. Note the qualified candidate will be hired into the appropriate title/level commensurate with education and relevant experience.
* Experience in the respective therapeutic area (MS) as well as noted territory strongly is preferred.
* Passion for science and deep scientific knowledge: Demonstrates a deep passion for medicine, science and clinical development; Is a subject matter expert in their TA; Has a solid base knowledge of the whole Biogen neuroscience portfolio to engage in preliminary thoughtful and compliant Scientific Exchange before referring to the Biogen Subject Matter Expert
* Effective communication: Communicates clearly, confidently, and credibly; Easily understands other points of views and responds appropriately; Listens with empathy to respond to current and future needs and adjust the communication according to the audience

* Able to travel at least 60% of the time, including ability to travel overnight and occasionally in weekends.
* Must be 18 years of age or older with valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record. Must have authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
