Job Summary
The Department of Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital (at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas) seeks candidates (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) for Section Chief of Breast Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Gastrointestinal Surgery.

Candidates will lead a rapidly expanding, Houston Methodist Health System-wide, academic breast surgery practice and join a vibrant and progressive Department of Surgery and a growing, top 20 U.S. News Cancer Center.Candidates should have completed formal post-residency fellowship training in breast surgery and/or surgical oncology/complex general surgical oncology and be certified by the American Board of Surgery. Selected candidates with previous, very extensive breast surgery experience (but without formal post-residency fellowship training) will be considered. Robust clinical expertise in the management of benign and malignant breast diseases is expected; breast imaging experience will be an asset. This opportunity offers additional clinical opportunities for general surgery practice and includes limited call coverage. Significant administrative experience and track record of surgical leadership is expected. The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team of dedicated radiologists, pathologists, reconstructive surgeons, and medical and radiation oncologists and will be expected to play an active role in disease-site focused tumor boards. They will be expected to play a key role in ongoing, system-wide program development and expansion, as well as to lead relevant quality and process improvement initiatives. Trainee supervision and instruction are a major component of the position. Education is primarily focused on general surgery residents and medical students. The candidate will be expected to drive curriculum development around breast surgery and actively participate in formal didactic teaching and conferences. A strong previous track record of academic productivity (peer-reviewed publications, intramurally/extramurally funded research, etc.) will be an asset. Research endeavors will be strongly encouraged and supported with opportunities for protected time via intramural clinician scientist, clinical trialist, and clinical educator awards; other intramural research grants; and departmental support. Recruited faculty will have opportunities for academic appointments at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute, the Houston Methodist Research Institute, and the Weill Cornell Medical College.
