Electric Distribution Controller (System Operator)

Job Description

Summary

Wisconsin Public Service, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is currently recruiting for a Electric Distribution Controller (System Operator) for our Green Bay, WI location. This position is responsible for the safe, reliable operation of We Energies Service electric distribution system. This includes initiating corrective actions for system problems, accurately maintaining operating records and recording the system configuration.

The individual selected for this position will participate in a 12 hour work schedule rotation, 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week.

Specific duties include:

* Maintaining awareness of weather conditions and initiate actions to manage weather impact on distribution system.
* Operating OMS (system) to accurately reflect outage conditions including number of customers affected, outage cause and estimated time of restoration.
* Troubleshooting, diagnosing and initiating repairs of distribution system problems.
* Developing and implementing bridging plans to restore customer outages.
* Assigning emergent work to various departments.
* Providing work direction to field personnel for planned switching and to restore customer outages.
* Developing recovery plans for equipment in its last contingency.
* Preparing switching orders in response to requests from customers and company personnel.
* Assigning planned switching work to field personnel to support construction and maintenance activities as well as to achieve on time switching commitments.
* Working with field personnel, police and fire departments during public emergency situations to ensure responder and public safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
* Candidates must demonstrate leadership ability, knowledge of electrical theory as it applies to distribution systems, knowledge of utility distribution equipment including system protection devices and an understanding of the occupational hazards associated with distribution system equipment.
* The ability to cope with stressful situations, to make sound operating decisions and to interact effectively with others including governmental agencies and customers is essential.
* Candidates must be proficient at operating a personal computer.
* Successful candidate will be required to complete and pass an in-house training program, approximately 1 year duration.
* This position requires unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets which would require applicants to satisfy all Company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, which includes a background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Technical Degree in Electrical theory and fundamentals i.e. AC/DC fundamentals and ICS coursework.
* 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products.
* 1+ years of formal or informal leadership with the ability to delegate and proven experience leading processes.
* 1+ years of experience working as an Electric Distribution Controller/System Operator OR 3 years of experience in electric industry (electrician, electric distribution, transmission, nuclear, engineering or distribution planning).
