The selected candidate will be responsible for new product conceptualization and the detailed design of products that meet or exceed customer requirements. These products are engineered in accordance with good engineering practices and company procedures. Strong consideration is given, during the design process, to manufacturing capabilities as well as product and tool design practices and standards, as well as cost. It also involves product design and development (prototype and production) to achieve the flawless launch of new products to production. The incumbent, because of the high level of related experience and education, is able to carry out assignments with little direct day-to-day supervision. This role is customer facing and often visits customer together with Marketing and Sales to sell EPS sealing solutions. The incumbent is responsible for managing the product development activity in their assigned markets.

Creates new products for new applications. Utilizes knowledge of systems and works directly with OEMs to determine product performance requirements. Leads team members of product development projects to attain project goals. Keeps up to date with end applications and emerging market trends; recommend and initiate the development of new products and technologies. Stays abreast of and researches the utility patent landscape. Identifies opportunities for product improvements through evaluation of manufacturing practices and assembly methods. Utilizes CAD software to develop product improvements. Performs root cause analysis on defective products using engineering principles and knowledge of manufacturing processes. Determine root cause using statistical methods (e.g., Design of Experiments (DOE), SPC). Modifies existing products to resolve quality problems, and coordinates activities of multiple disciplines to implement a solution. Defines product performance standards and product acceptance standards using knowledge of systems and laboratory testing equipment and procedures. Determines disposition of non-conforming material using engineering judgment and knowledge. Stays abreast of latest product, materials, tool design, manufacturing and quality technologies. Communicate and coordinate project activities with Sales and Market Managers and dealing directly with customers, including customer visits and presentations, as necessary. Creates and maintains well-documented design files in accordance with design control procedures and applicable Quality Plans (e.g. TS-16949 / QS 9000). Plan, perform, coordinate, analyze and document product verification and validation testing (development and E.S. testing). Exceptional technical report writing is necessary. Initiate, monitor, review and approve samples for submission to customers and/or internal evaluation. Mentor and monitor the work of entry level Engineers and Co-Op students. Participate in the APQP process to achieve a flawless production launch. Uses Six Sigma methodologies, experience and scientific analysis to develop and analyze products. Understands the linkage between rubber materials and the harmonization of tooling, equipment and processes to develop robust designs. Achieves Policy Deployment goals. Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety/ergonomic standards and good housekeeping practices. Understand and implement the health, safety and environmental policies and integrate health, safety and environmental considerations into daily work activities.

Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, and 6 plus years of technical experience in the design of sealing solutions. Minimum of two years experience is required with direct customer contact. Ability to read, understand, and create engineering drawings including geometric tolerance and dimensioning (GD&T). Understands assembly relationship of components and tolerance stacking. Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), and Design of Experiments (DOE). A working knowledge of CAD is required, preferably Inventor, including solid modeling, and simulation techniques (Finite Element Analysis/FEA). Working knowledge of DFMEA is required. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Effective inter-personal skills, ability to work in a team environment, and Project Management experience with the ability to manage his/her own priorities and workload. An advanced degree (business or technical) is useful but not required.
