Senior Manager Engineering - Cloud Big Data& Analytics Services

Asa manager you will own the execution of software design and development formajor components of Oracles Cloud Infrastructure. You should have technicaldepth, architectural know how, distributed systems generalist, strong peopleand process manager and able to dive deep into any part of the stack andlow-level systems. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in acollaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
Froma technology perspective, this is a greenfield development environment with ahuge amount of autonomy, leaving us free to build and innovate without beingencumbered by legacy products and services.
TheAdvanced Big Data Analytics Service teams charter is to build a fully managed,cloud native service focused on large-scale analytics on (mostly) unstructureddata stored in data lakes, and management of the data in the data lakes. Theservice work scope encompasses not just good integration with OCIs nativeinfrastructure (security, cloud storage, etc.), but also deep integration withother relevant cloud native services in OCI (like Oracle Kubernetes, DataCatalog, ADW, etc.). It includes doing cloud native ways of doing service levelpatching & upgrades and maintaining high availability of the service in theface of random failures & planned downtimes in the underlyinginfrastructure (e.g., for things like patching the Linux kernels to take careof a security vulnerability). Developing systems for monitoring and gettingtelemetry into the services runtime characteristics and being able to takeactions on the telemetry data is a part of the charter.

* Provide leadership, direction and strategy
* Identify, recruit and retain strong engineering talent
* Work with members of the team and manage smart engineers doing the design and development of key features needed to make the Big Data Analytics Services successful
* Demonstrate expertise in cloud engineering and distributed systems
* Have prior experience in building and delivering world class products
* Work with geographically distributed teams and contribute to the success of his/her and other related teams
* Work with designers and product managers to arrive at a product/service definition and get the definition to an execution plan
* Support a highly available and resilient cloud service, and build the supporting systems in/outside Apache Spark to be able to deliver on these
* Work with the team and outside to get necessary approvals for the architecture and design for the problem at hand
* Interact with other service leads in OCI, and be able to come up with clear plans on integration with those as needed
Desired Skills and Experience
* 10+ years of experience in software development.
* 3+ Years of experience leading engineering teams.
* BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
* 5+ years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
* 2+ years of cloud experience.
* 2+ years of experience managing a complex software development project and working in a domain of operating a service.
* Experience with Spark, Kubernetes, and Containers.
* Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit very strong engineering talent.
* Experience at an organization with strong operational/devops culture.
* Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms such as easy to use tooling and automation. Work in concert with service developers to evolve systems/products for better scalability, reliability and release velocity.
* Previous success in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures for our team and org.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.
* Results driven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative, and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity.
Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.
Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
