GENERALSUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Responsible for providingphlebotomy services in the lab to NEW/Health patients as ordered by treatingproviders. Responsible for assistingphysicians, nurse practitioners and behavioral health therapists withevaluation, management, treatment of patients during office visits and othertasks related to the visit consistent with his/her training and skills in ateam-based Patient-Centered Medical-Home environment. His/her primary roles are to assure efficientpatient flow through the office, maintain neat, clean and safe patient careareas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in aprofessional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.
PRINCIPALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Phlebotomy Duties/Responsibilities
* Phlebotomy skillson adult/pediatric patients
* Perform routinelab procedures on premises (waived testing)
* Accurate recordkeeping and logging of all tests in-house or sent to outside lab per labprocedures
* Distribute labresults to appropriate providers and data entry personnel as needed
* Keep filingup-to-date
* Order supplies asneeded
* Maintain qualitycontrol records
* Perform any other dutiesas requested by supervisor
Supporting clinical team to ensureeffective patient flow
Assurepatients medical records are complete prior to visit. Scrub records in order to update physician onpending clinical updates for each patient. Huddle with physician/ nurse practitioner/ BH therapist prior to thebeginning of the session to discuss various tasks that may have to be updatedon each patient.
Greetpatients in waiting area and escort to exam room.
Assistwith admission process:
* Use doubleidentifier to determine accurate patient information
* Document chiefcomplaint or symptoms in the medical record
* Document currentmedications and prescriptions that need to be renewed
* Review records forimmunization needs
* Perform EKGs perorder of clinician
Instructpatient how to prepare for the physician or nurse practitioner (assisting, ifnecessary)
Anticipateand set up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the visit.
Alertthe physician or nurse practitioner when the patient is ready and communicatepertinent clinical information.
Assistprovider as required
Interpretor assist with accessing interpretation through telephonic access during visitas required
Assistpatient through check-out process
Prepareroom for next patient
Respondto needs to expedite visits and keep providers on schedules
Stockexamination room
Assist physician or nurse practitionerwith patient care during the visit
Adhereto hand hygiene and standard precaution guidelines.
Providecare appropriate to age group of patients in practice setting and document dataper practice protocols:
* Take and record age-appropriatevital signs
* Measurements andrecording of BMI (height and weight)
Provideinstructions for specimen collection
blood(phlebotomy)
* clean voided urine
* sputum
* stool for occultblood
* rapid streptesting (drop off)
* UCGs (pregnancytests)
* Assist with throatcultures and pap smears
Assistphysician or nurse practitioner with patient examination, procedures, andtreatments, as directed.
Performother tests, procedures and treatments, as directed.
* simple, drysterile dressings
* EKG
* Pulmonary functiontests
Documenttesting/results per practice protocols
Assist the physician or nursepractitioner with work outside the visit related to managing a panel ofpatients.
Performdesignated tasks related to tracking test results and may communicate normaltest results to patient as directed by physician or nurse practitioner.
Receivepatient messages, review with physician or nurse practitioner (teams) and takeaction as directed.
Expediteprescription renewals as directed by the prescribing provider.
Assistphysicians and nurse practitioners in coordinating care with/making referralsto community agencies for non-clinical services by referring patients to theResource Specialist on staff (team).
Maintain neat, clean, and safe examrooms and treatment areas.
Assurepatient care areas are neat, clean, and professional looking.
Assureexam and treatment rooms are properly stocked, equipped, and secured, asapplicable.
Assureall equipment is in good working order.
Cleanequipment after patient use per office protocols.
Promote patient/customer satisfactionby interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent withtheir needs.
Adhereto Human Resources policies re: attendance and dress code.
Adhereto customer service philosophy in all patient interactions.
Communicateappropriately and effectively with patient.
Function as an integral part of thepatient care team
Interact in a professional,cooperative way with other staff and team members.

Before leaving the practicefor breaks/lunch, make sure adequate coverage is available.

Attend and participate inhuddles and staff meetings on a regular basis.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Must be fluent in Spanish
Good communication skills
Good phlebotomy skills
Experience performing waived testing procedures
Sound judgment and problem solving ability.
Ability to prioritize
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment and see them through to completion
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Computer literacy (ability to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, scheduling system, tracking tools)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):
Medical Assistant and Basic Life Support certification required.
Certified in Phlebotomy for both adults and children required
Current Basic CPR certification required
EDUCATION:
Minimum of high school diploma, GED or equivalent required
Graduate of approved Medical Assistant program required
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting preferred.
