Basic Function

Mechanical Maintenance Techs / Millwrights are tasked to apply mechanical expertise to insure the safe and reliable operation of site process plants and reduce operating costs. This is accomplished by executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities.

Roles & Responsibilities

Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
Provide troubleshooting, repair and proactive maintenance to site process equipment
Provides technical expertise for efficient and effective installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, pro-active maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit equipment.
Equipment includes pumps, compressors, turbines, extruders, and piping systems.
Executes scheduled work by:
o Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding.
o Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
o Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.
o Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards.
o Working with equipment owner to complete task in a safe and timely manner.
o Updating supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
o Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
o Responds to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
o Identify and implement reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams.
o Candidate will also be required to mentor other mechanical maintenance technicians when necessary.
o Engages in developmental dialogs with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
o Promotes an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.

Min. Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 4 years of maintenance millwright / pump mechanic experience in an industrial environment.
Advanced understanding of equipment design and application for various types of machinery: turbo machinery, process pumps, reciprocating compressors and process fans. Working knowledge of laser alignment technology and application.
Demonstrated history of multi-craft expertise in addition to millwright is a plus:
o Fundamental understanding of mechanical rigging in accordance with OSHA requirements is preferred. A working knowledge of equipment drawings and P&ID's, and mechanical seal drawings is required. Technical skills testing will be performed during the hiring process to ensure minimum requirements are met.
o Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
o Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts and provide overtime coverage
o Must be willing and able to work occasional plant call-outs
o Must be willing to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment)
o Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment
o Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
o Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
o Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces
o Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders
o Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
o Must be able to complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse set of cross functional groups
o High commitment to the craft and willing to learn and accept new challenges
o Self-starter and capable of leading formal or informal work groups
o Basic computer software and hardware familiarity including competency with MS Office
o Basic mathematics including first level algebra is a plus
o Experience with SAP or other computerized Maintenance Management systems is a plus
o Willingness and ability to adhere to all rules and procedures
o Ability to work shifts including weekends and holidays as needed
o Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, elevated heights and noisy areas
Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree in a maintenance related field or have equivalent industrial/military work experience
A related Associate Degree and/or NCCER certification is a plus
