Job Description

Description:
The coolest jobs on this planet or any other are with Lockheed Martin Space.
At the dawn of a new space age, Lockheed Martin is a pioneer, partner, innovator and builder. Our amazing people are on a mission to make a difference in the world and every single day we use our unique skills and experiences to create, design and build solutions to some of the worlds hardest engineering problems. Do you want to be part of a culture that inspires employees to think big, perform with excellence and build incredible products? We provide the resources, inspiration and focus - if you have the passion and courage to dream big, then we want to build a better tomorrow with you.

The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. Through our own skills and those of our partnersincluding universities and research labs around the worldwe are able to put vision in motion. While we are a part of LM's space division, our technologies are far-reaching across domains. Napkin sketches of lasers that can shoot down UAVswe made it real. Changing molecules so metals behave differently? We invented that. ATCs story is written in the success of missions here on Earth and far, far into space. Our innovation extends beyond incremental change. We strive for first-of-a-kind capability with enduring impact. Whatever the application, our charter is to create game-changing technologies. At the ATC, we are inspiring change in our endless pursuit of what is next.
We are searching for a Research Software Engineer to join our extraordinary team.

In this role you will perform the research, design, development and verification of signal and image collection systems, and define and develop processing computer algorithms. You will design, develop and analyze systems and algorithms for the extraction of information from signal and image sensors. Technologies including real-time processing, detection and estimation theories, neural networks, and implementation of signal processing with advanced computer architectures will be applied to laser and other electro-optical systems for Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), directed energy weapons, navigation and proximity operations, or target tracking and identification. You will develop and improve algorithms and evaluate their performance using simulations and test data. You will participate in teams implementing the algorithms in hardware and conducting full-system, real-world demonstrations of capability.
You are someone who has strong analytic and communication skills and works well in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. You will work part of the week at a field testing site and can work independently yet stay coordinated with the rest of the team.

Lockheed Martin Corporation is an American global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technologies company with worldwide interests. It was formed by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta in March 1995, and Loral Federal Systems in 1996. It is headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland, in the Washington, DC, area. Lockheed Martin employs approximately 100,000 people worldwide as of December 2017.

Lockheed Martin is one of the largest companies in the aerospace, defense, security, and technologies industry. It is the world's largest defense contractor based on revenue for fiscal year 2014. In 2013, 78% of Lockheed Martin's revenues came from military sales; it topped the list of US federal government contractors and received nearly 10% of the funds paid out by the Pentagon. In 2009 US government contracts accounted for $38.4 billion (85%), foreign government contracts $5.8 billion (13%), and commercial and other contracts for $900 million (2%).

Lockheed Martin operates in four business segments: Aeronautics, Missiles and Fire Control, Rotary and Mission Systems, and Space Systems. The company has received the Collier Trophy six times, including in 2001 for being part of developing the X-35/F-35B LiftFan Propulsion System, and most recently in 2006 for leading the team that developed the F-22 Raptor fighter jet. Lockheed Martin is currently developing the F-35 Lightning II and leads the international supply chain, leads the team for the development and implementation of technology solutions for the new USAF Space Fence (AFSSS replacement), and is the primary contractor for the development of the Orion command module. The company also invests in healthcare systems, renewable energy systems, intelligent energy distribution and compact nuclear fusion.
