Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facility Services and direct supervision of the Security Supervisor and according to established policies and procedures, provides security for patients, employees and visitors. Performs other work of the department as required.

Job Requirements:
Certification by the N.C. Department of Justice to serve as a Law Enforcement Officer, and must be currently sworn as a Law Enforcement Officer with jurisdiction in Wilson County, N.C.
1. Maintains a secure environment in the Emergency Department, and responds to calls for assistance from other areas of the hospital.
Monitors conduct of visitors and patients
Confronts and escorts unruly and unauthorized persons from the ER premises, as warranted
Responds to calls for help with unruly, abusive, combative, threatening or armed persons
a. Appropriately and effectively intervenes when unruly, abusive, combative, threatening or armed persons are encountered.
b. Communicates in a calm, factual, objective and respectful manner when addressing unruly persons.
c. Selects and applies appropriate procedures, techniques, equipment and communications based on the age and developmental status of persons with whom s/he is dealing.
d. Responds quickly to urgent requests, and in a timely manner for non-urgent requests.
e. Follows established procedures and protocols when performing emergency and non-emergency routines or interventions.
f. Notifies appropriate law enforcement agency, as warranted.
2. Documents work activities and incidents, and prepares/maintains departmental records and reports.
a. Required documentation is accurate, complete, timely and legible, and documented in accordance with established procedure and time frames.
3. Performs miscellaneous duties as needed.
Participates in other hospital and departmental support activities requiring stand-by and re-call at times
