The Central Sterile Supply Technicians lead will lead other technicians and also perform cleaning, disinfecting, sterilization and inventory control functions safely. In accordance with established policies, procedures and standards, cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores, and distributes equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care. Duties also include IMMS inventory control and cart assembly.

They will also:

1. Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of work surface/areas, sinks, sterilizers, racks, shelves and other storage areas.
2. Clean and decontaminate all equipment and instruments using the proper tools and cleaning agents.
3. Ensure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.
4. Inspect all instruments and equipment for missing parts, items in need of repair. Performs general maintenance of instruments and equipment as needed.
5. Isolate equipment and instruments in need of repair; reports needed repairs to Central Supply Manager.
6. Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments and special procedure items.
7. Maintain appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.
8. Perform tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies.
9. Possess knowledge of and uses personal protective equipment correctly and consistently.
10. Process all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Supply from the operating room.
11. Process all items appropriately using either ethylene oxide or steam sterilization.
12. Properly load, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.
13. Unload case carts when returned to the decontamination area, cleans and disinfects case carts.

Job Requirements

Required Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred

Other:

Previous experience in central supply area - preferred
