SUMMARY

Function

Designs, develops and implements experiments and projects.

Scope

Impacts cancer research efforts throughout the institution.

Essential Job Functions

The primary purpose of the Staff Scientist position is to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, carry out and evaluate specific research projects conducted Health Disparities Research. Provides input to cancer research efforts throughout the institution. Responsible for specific activities related to nutrition and energy balance-related cancer prevention and health equity projects and for completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by principal investigator.

Will work closely with Research Manager to manage personnel tasks. Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work. Responsible for providing expertise and services on behavioral research-related issues, data management, analysis, and interpretation. Presents findings of research projects and prepares scientific documents for publication. May apply for grants with institutional approval.

Research Collaborations. Collaborates with or assists supervisor with preparation of reports and grant submissions. Drafts or supports writing for publication of results in peer-reviewed journals. Develops and coordinates collaborations with a variety of transdisciplinary groups and organizations. Represents PI/PD at local, collaborative meetings. Reviews and evaluates research activity and data of the research team. Function in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments.

Education Required

PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree

Education Preferred

None.

Five years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
