Job Description
Intel's Neuromorphic Computing Lab is seeking talented neuromorphic algorithm researchers to pioneer a new class of algorithms targeting Intel's future generation of neuromorphic processors. Our goal is to exploit neuromorphic and related non-von Neumann architectures to solve real-world problems with orders of magnitude gains versus the best known conventional solutions in applications ranging from cloud to edge based systems.
We are interested in a wide range of algorithmic domains; in particular in data-efficient offline or continual online learning algorithms and applications thereof but also other domains such as generative models, symbolic computing, general optimization-based problems or dynamical systems modelling tailored for event-based neuromorphic hardware systems by taking their constraints but also their unique opportunities into account.
As part of our diverse international team, your work as an intern in our Neuromorphic Computing Lab will primarily span from high level algorithm development, implementing these algorithms and applications thereof on Intel neuromorphic systems to comparing their performance to conventional solutions by drawing from state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and your understanding of computational neuroscience.
You also have the opportunity to contribute your accomplishment to Intel's new open-source neuromorphic software development kit to the benefit of the broader community depending on your interests and background.
Your contributions in all these areas will have a direct impact to enable breakthrough applications in the space of computer vision, natural language processing, autonomous vehicles, robotics, and large-scale scientific and big data problems.
We encourage applicants, during screening, to propose creative and impactful projects building on their skillset and scientific background to demonstrate the value of novel spiking/event-based neuromorphic technology.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS degree (or similar) in Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program with a focus on machine learning or neuro-inspired computational algorithms and applications
- Expertise in developing machine/deep learning algorithms using popular frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Expertise in Python and/or C/C++ with the ability to design and write quality code
- Prior experience in working with neuromorphic hardware systems or spiking neural networks is desirable
