Your Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for an exceptional Toolkit Development Lead, Genomics.
Overseeing the team development and package delivery for the inventory of bioinformatic tools, workflows and data offered to users (including prioritized incorporation of individual bioinformatics tools, creation of workflows and sub-workflows for customer use and for demos, and creation of adapter tools), you will be the primary owner for some code repositories that do not yet exist, and for tool development.
Responsibilities include:
* Drive the creation of bundles of assets that meet targeted technical requirements for bioinformatic analysis.
* Work with the product lead on roadmap and strategy for new tools and datasets.
* Research, integrate, test, and validate new bioinformatics pipelines.
* Integrate genomics datasets.
* Improve quality of output from the Toolkits team with testing, code reviews, and team coding.
* Develop scientific use cases and demos for customer engagements, presentations, and marketing material.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* Demonstrated development capability in programming languages used for genomics such as Python, Bash, and R.
* Familiarity with software development and project management processes and tools (Agile, GitHub, JIRA, Wiki, etc.).
* Demonstrated capability of building and using bioinformatics tools for large scale NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) analyses.
* Strong communication skills with a diverse audience, including company leadership and customers.
* Excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
COVID-19 Consideration:
The safety of our employees, both current and future, is IBMs highest priority. Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. Once IBM determines employees can return to the office safely, this role requires on-site attendance at our San Jose location.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
* Demonstrated knowledge in statistics and programming languages such as Python and / or R.
* Strong hands-on programming ability in relevant framework and languages such as WDL, CWL, or Nextflow.
* Insight into emerging genomic analysis trends and recent bioinformatics tools.
* Experience in computational cancer genomics and / or single cell RNA-seq is a plus.
* Understanding of cloud computing and high-performance computing.
* Experience leading a team.
* Masters or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Genetics, or related discipline with a computational emphasis.
* Ph.D. is preferred.
