IBM Cognitive Systems is seeking an experienced Hardware Development PCB Card Planning Engineer to join our enterprise class server development business. IBM has a long and storied history of delivering high reliability high performance servers to key enterprise class companies in industries including Healthcare, Transportation, Business Analytics, and Finance. While an industry leader in high reliability server solutions IBM Cognitive Systems is undergoing expansion into the fields of AI and Machine Learning with such revolutionary innovations as the suite of Watson products. With growing scope of server design, we are seeking a highly motivated engineer with strong background in PCB design to join our elite design team and help to deliver the servers of tomorrow utilizing the IBM POWER architecture.

Job Duties:
The Card Planning Engineer is a unique role to IBM that combines the industry's PCB Card Engineering role with PCB Physical Design (PD) Layout skills to deliver IBM's highly efficient design methodology.
* The Card Planner role leverages card engineering and PD skills to lay a foundation for system critical card designs that enables execution teams to minimally iterate to a final solution. High level system concepts developed by the Card Planner include the number of cards required, card size and shape, major component placement, major bus pathways, connector requirements, etc.
* Post concept the Card Planner drives the delivery of the concept through the execution phase including logic entry and physical design. During the execution phase the Card Planner defines details including component placement, processor fanout and escape, major bus connections, custom connector pinout definitions, and more.
* As a unique role to IBM, the Card Planning Engineer can be developed from two primary paths commonly found in the industry: Card Engineering and Card Physical Design.

About the Team
Card Planners engage in the concept phase of the design in collaboration with system architects and mechanical leads to develop a clear conceptual system design.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* A minimum of 10 years of experience in Card Engineering or Card Physical Design
* Demonstrated experience in designing high-density, multi-layered, high-speed circuit PCBs in either a Card Engineering role or Card Physical Design (PD) role
* Demonstrated experience coordinating and balancing input from multi-functional teams such as System Architecture, Mechanical, Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI), and Interconnect.
* Demonstrated experience with PCB design tool suites.
* Experienced in team-based work developing hardware products including planning, status reporting, leading formal reviews, and schedule planning to achieve aggressive product delivery targets.
* Self-starter with relentless desire to learn and innovate.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Preferred Requirements:

* In depth knowledge of Cadence's Allegro Design Entry, PCB Editor, and Allegro System Architecture.
* Prior experience working on design of processor backplanes.
