Optical Engineer - Imaging Optics

Job Description

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Optical Engineer to join our Optical Product Development team in FRL. In this role, you will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to design, simulate, implement and debug the imaging optics for advanced machine vision systems. You will work cross functionally to develop specifications and test methods, perform performance evaluation for the imaging optics and work closely with manufacturing partners for prototyping and mass production.

Optical Engineer - Imaging Optics Responsibilities

* Define imaging optical system requirements.

* Execute optical design and implementation into production.

* Build up the analysis of system performance at various angles.

* Collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software teams closely to deliver the final product.

* Build relationships with industry partners to achieve state-of-the-art optical system.

Minimum Qualifications

* BS degree in optical engineering related technical disciplines with 3+ years of experience or advanced degree in optical engineering related technical disciplines with 2+ years of experience or equivalent experience.

* Knowledge in one of the skills listed below: Complex optical system design (e.g. imaging optics) or optical tolerance budget build-up against conventional Monte Carlo Simulation or optically graded plastic and glass material or optical metrology or stray light and analysis or experience in one or more optical software package (e. g. Zemax, Code V, LighTools, FRED, ASAP, Eikonal, Trace Pro, OSLO).

* Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optical design software.

* Interpersonal experience to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

* MS in Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.

* Experience in opto-mechanical design and tolerance analysis.

* Knowledge of camera system integration and metrology methodology for camera lens testing and camera module evaluation.
