The Global Legal Privacy Incident Management team is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Lead Counsel for Facebook on all privacy incidents (data breach). Working closely with the Central Privacy Incident Management team and other cross-functional partners, we direct, advise, and conduct investigations, conduct legal risk assessments, identify and assess regulatory and individual notification requirements, and coordinate and synchronize Facebooks global response to privacy incidents. You will be joining the worlds leading data breach response program. This position requires business acumen, strong collaborative skills, excellent communication, and substantive knowledge of global privacy breach laws. This role also requires flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with working on numerous projects simultaneously, with varied stakeholders, often under high pressure with global visibility. You will be working on industry leading and cutting edge projects, ensuring commitment to privacy and managing our compliance with applicable privacy breach laws and regulations. A successful candidate is excited by taking on and leading complex privacy projects (especially breach response), thrives in a fast-paced environment and can seamlessly drive success working with multiple cross-functional stakeholders to accomplish bold things. You must also be a self-starter, able to identify issues early and drive to resolution independently.
Lead Counsel, Privacy Incidents Responsibilities
* Maintain subject matter expertise in areas of privacy and data protection laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws) and advise on the impact of the same on Facebooks business
* Advise and assist engineering, privacy, and security teams in the conduct of investigations into suspected privacy incidents, including applicability of privacy/data breach laws and requirements to notify users and regulators
* Advise the development and management of Facebook's (and its affiliates') terms and data policies across the full range of Facebooks different products and advise investigations into potential breaches of such policies
* Advise business team clients, such as HR, communications, and research teams, on privacy requirements
* Support members of the legal, business, and policy teams on privacy-related legal matters, including areas related to partnerships, acquisitions, integrations, and other business development opportunities
* Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across Facebook's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
* Assist in the development and conduct of general and role-specific privacy trainings across Facebook
* Manage internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations
Minimum Qualifications
* J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
* 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience (privacy, compliance, litigation, regulatory, or product counseling will be considered)
* Business judgment and client counseling experience
* Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience conducting internal and regulatory investigations, especially data security investigations
* Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines ((e.g., US, GDPR, LGPD, etc.)
* Experience working with social media, ad tech and Internet companies
