Job Description

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates to deliver our innovative products. The Data Center Strategic Planning team develops the data center supply and demand plans and scaling strategies for Facebooks rapidly growing business. We are seeking a technically minded strategic planner to support data center strategy research and analysis. In this role you'll be part of the team that plans data center growth and drives scaling strategies for one of the most fast-growing infrastructure in the world. Your primary responsibilities will be to work closely with our data center and capacity engineering teams to analyze cost, capacity, and schedule to drive actionable recommendations on new data center strategies and planning changes. You will also help define and develop KPIs, reporting processes, and data visualizations to deliver insights across several planning areas.

Power and Capacity Engineer, Intern (PhD) Responsibilities

* Explore and develop solutions to scale the largest web capacity in the world: work with Product, Data, and Infrastructure teams to scale the data center infrastructure supporting Billions of users in terms of power, compute, storage and network to meet user experience.

* Perform research and make recommendations for infra optimization opportunities for the state-of-the-art hardware and software capacity deployment across the fleet (from power, thermal, space and performance perspective.)

* Create capacity models and performance & power experiments to determine utilization parameters for datacenter resources.

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Electrical Engineering

* Publications in top-tier conferences/journals or experience in Performance modeling, computer architecture, data center technologies, performance analysis, workload characterization, machine learning, or related field

* Experience in leveraging theoretical and empirical research to solve problems

* Ability to communicate complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

* Coding and scripting proficiency

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with distributed systems

* Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
