Systems Engineer, Senior
Key Role:
Conduct independent technical investigations in software/systems design. Support system SMEs with technical triaging highly visible incidents causing significant user impact; provide technical expertise and ensure troubleshooting effort is thorough and consistently structured. Apply engineering abilities to develop highly detailed technical solutions to problems within the VA enterprise. Provide technical review of executive reports to ensure reporting correctly portrays the details of triage efforts. Analyze network traffic, APM data, and logs to identify deviations from implementation best practices and identify root cause of system problems. Document findings and provide analysis of resolved issues to help eliminate repeat impacts. Apply known fixes and track occurrences of problems across multiple application environments
Basic Qualifications:
* 10+ years of experience in technology
* 7+ years of experience in working with key indicators for IT system operability, application performance and code quality
* 7+ years of experience with deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting complex applications at an enterprise scale while working with cross-functional teams
* 3+ years of experience in monitoring and troubleshooting
* Experience with two or more of the following APM tools: AppDynamics, DynaTrace, Splunk, or Aternity
* 1+ years of experience in service virtualization, AWS or Azure Cloud technologies, and SaaS and PaaS implementation
* Experience with using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Ability to obtain security clearance
* BA or BS degree
Additional Qualifications:
* Experience in one or more Technology Areas, including Network, Windows, Desktop, Unix/Linux, AWS or Azure Cloud, WebSphere Middleware, Java/JS Development, Microsoft or Oracle Database
* Experience with test-driven development, distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native application implementation
* Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager, Riverbed Aternity, or ServiceNow
* MA or MS degree in CS, Engineering, Math, or equivalent field
