The Electrical Engineer will design, implement, and troubleshoot power, Level 1 control (PLC-based), and data collection systems. This position will be responsible for maintaining and improving the electrical infrastructure utilized in Breakthrough Smelting Technology Research (including direct current rectifiers, electric kilns, environmental control systems, furnaces, etc.). Duties include: control panel design, hardware specification and selection, PLC programming, troubleshooting, and overseeing the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment. This role will propose and implement solutions to support systems and operations for advanced aluminum smelting technologies as well as material manufacturing.

Primary Purpose of Position:

* Build, maintain, develop, and deploy the functional control software components used for research and development of the following technologies:
* Smelting Cell Operations
* Metal Melting and Treatment
* Anode / Cathode manufacturing systems
* Maintain and implement design changes to:
* Data collection systems (OSI PI)
* Rockwell PLC based control systems (hardware and software)
* Power systems
* Ensure the sites compliance with Alcoa electrical safety standards
* Work with managers, engineers (mechanical, process and design) and technicians to optimize and implement novel solutions to various equipment utilized as part of advanced smelting technology. Examples of sub-systems include heaters, temperature monitoring hardware, hydraulic actuators, lifting devices, and melt furnaces, all integrated into a process.
* Develop scopes and oversee contracted electricians to ensure work is completed safely and accurately.
* Coordinate preventative maintenance program on electrical equipment used for various technologies.
* Maintain up-to-date testing and calibration of electrical test equipment and PPE.
* Support facility infrastructure and services

* BS degree in Electrical Engineering.
* 5+ years of engineering and automation experience.
* Capacity for making decisions and problem solving independently.
* Demonstrated experience with quickly learning and applying new concepts, software packages, and equipment.
* Proficient in MS Office Suite of applications.

Preferred Qualifications

* Proficient in the application with any or all of the following software and hardware: Rockwell PLCs, FactoryTalk View SE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Visio.
* Understanding of structured programming languages such as Visual Basic or C++; experience with Visual Basic .NET.
* Understanding of standard data collection methods and systems; experience with Microsoft SQL and/or OSI PI databases.
* Experience in data collection/analysis methods and technologies.
* Experience designing electrical control panels, including panel layouts and schematics.
* Ability to identify root causes of process deficiencies with recommended solutions.
* Communicate progress/results both through written reports and oral presentations to management and peers.
* Engineer in Training Certification/PE track
* Pro-active and ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Proven electrical system design proficiencies with experience in execution from design concept to prototype to production scales.
