Specific Job Description:

The successful candidate will perform Supplier Quality oversight of suppliers. This oversight will include interfacing with suppliers in order to: assess a suppliers technical capabilities or audit the supplier's quality management system; perform intrusive assessments of a suppliers critical processes for manufacturing, testing or inspection in order to assure ongoing conformance to procedures and contractual requirements; perform related studies to help insure that engineering and procurement specifications will be met by the supplier; initiate/validate supplier corrective/preventive actions to drive resolution of problems discovered during supplier assessments; and help train/develop suppliers. Candidate may also investigate or coordinate the investigation and resolution of material-related non-conformances, and interface with internal Procurement and Engineering functions to facilitate the development and communication of part ordering requirements. Technical writing and customer relations skills are essential. Up to 50% of work time involves travel. Must be able to obtain DoD security clearance. In addition, working experience in a manufacturing environment is desired, preferably including quality engineering, such as inspection, auditing, statistical analysis, quality assurance and quality control. Prior experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role is a plus. Project management/leadership experience is desired. Lean and Six Sigma training/certification is desired.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

* Technical writing and customer relations skills

* Working experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably including quality engineering, such as inspection, auditing, statistical analysis, quality assurance and quality control

* Prior experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role

* Project management/leadership experience

* Lean and Six Sigma training/certification
