Job Description

The GM Defense Controllership team is responsible for technical accounting support of the GM Defense business. The GM Defense Controllership team will consist of two GM Defense Accounting Analysts reporting to a GM Defense Controllership Manager. This team works closely with the GM Defense Finance team and the business to support initial design and set up of operational accounting processes, as well as on-going technical accounting review to determine appropriate accounting for transactions. Key experiences gained from the team are an understanding of Governmental accounting, as well as communication, technical expertise, problem solving and innovation skills.

Responsibilities

* Research, analyze and apply specialized accounting/reporting guidance relating to FASB, Government or other regulatory bodies, and SEC rules and regulations

* Accounting for Government contracting and reporting

* Collaborates with business units, other Controllers Staff groups, and third parties to compile information to support development of accounting activities

* Independent judgment, decision-making, attention to details and initiative in analyzing, developing and improving accounting processes, including accuracy, completeness and ownership within the area of assignment

* Responsible for preparing a monthly close process including journal vouchers, account reconciliations, variance analytics, etc.

* Assist in developing and maintaining desk procedures for accounting processes

* Ensure appropriate financial controls are implement/maintained and GM policies are being followed

* Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in areas of expertise, and actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

* Participate in SOX compliance, Audits (internal & external) and resolution of any matters

* Write reports and summaries of findings in a clear and concise fashion

* Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal guidance or supervision

* Proactively work to discuss and resolve accounting and reporting issues with the manager and move project tasks forward

* Ability to work with people within and outside group, with willingness to listen to various opinions

* Work with sense of urgency to finish the assignment

* Solves problems and develops new analytical methods to streamline decision making

* Collaborates accounting information flow with other staffs and business units for optimal decisions

* Initiative to improve and modernize processes, reporting and controls

* Must be US citizen or permanent resident
