JOB SUMMARY:
Raytheon Technologies is offering a great opportunity for a LEAD ENGINEER, FLIGHT SAFETY VULNERABILITY & TESTING for an upcoming contract based in SPRINGFIELD, VA. This program provides Enterprise Watch and Operations Support that maintains a proactive interface with multiple Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) organizations. It provides mission assurance and contingency operations and exercise support, conducts threat and vulnerability assessments, defensive space control analyses, and assessment of mission contributions and loss impacts during anomalies.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Flight Safety Engineering Lead will apply their existing broad knowledge of System Engineering and Orbital Mechanics as the Lead of Flight Safety Vulnerability and Test teams. Provides technical knowledge and analysis for highly specialized data processing and engineering activities, and provides advice on exceptionally complex problems which require extensive knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation. Applies principles, methods and knowledge of the functional areas of expertise to specific task order requirements, advanced mathematical principles and methods to exceptionally difficult and narrowly defined technical problems in engineering and other scientific applications to arrive at automated solutions. Designs and prepares technical reports, studies, and related documentation, makes charts and graphs to record results. Prepares and delivers presentations and briefings as required by the task order. Directly coordinates team activities with customers and program leads to ensure both mission and end user needs are being adequately satisfied. Reviews and ensures team products and performance align with and adjust accordingly to the rapidly changing operational environment, with an eye towards efficiencies and product/process improvements. Identifies and performs vulnerability assessments of directed energy and other threats against designated programs using data from multiple sources. Generates and disseminates impact assessments, to include mitigation options, further operational testing, and mission assurance recommendations in formal reports to the customer and externals. Supports training material development and maintenance, and conduct flight safety vulnerability and testing certification and proficiency training. Performs project planning for vulnerability testing and coordinate analysis for projects and concepts across enterprise to ensure mission safety.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a day-shift position that may require periodic shift/off-hours coverage to support 24x7x365 testing and exercises.
SECURITY CLEARANCE:
* Must have an active TS/SCI security clearance with a current CI polygraph.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a degree concentration in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optics, or other relevant STEM discipline AND 12+ years of applicable engineering and operational work experience are required. A Masters Degree is highly preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* Minimum of seven (7) years of applicable orbital mechanics experience, including collision avoidance and/or satellite operations analysis.
* Minimum of three (3) years of experience with customer system engineering processes, including flight safety, vulnerability analysis/testing, and/or orbit analysis.
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing related work within the United States Intelligence Community (IC).
* Ability to support daily work schedule, with the possibility of periodically supporting customer- and environment-driven surges through exercises, anomalies, or major program activities.
* Must have a successful record of demonstrated leadership/management skills for a small-to-medium sized operational team.
* Must have a successful record of effectively interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters, often requiring coordination between organizations.
* Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Windows and Unix/Linux based operating systems, software requirements, and software maintenance.
* Demonstrated ability to not only work in an aggressive operational environment, but to also actively identify product and process improvements or enhancements.
* Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills in a fast-paced, high-visibility, operational environment.
* Must have strong oral/written presentation, interpersonal and team player skills.
DESIRED SKILLS:
* Minimum of five (5) years of space operations experience, ten years of orbital mechanics, including 5 years of flight safety, and/or vulnerability analysis/testing experience.
* Minimum of five (5) years of program management or technical leadership experience.
* Experience with Windows, Unix and Linux Operating systems
* Experience with Microsoft Office & Visual Studio and Adobe Products.
* Experience using P (Active State and/or Open IDE), Java, C++, Fortran, Mathcad and Matlab.
* Familiarization with AGI Systems Toolkit (STK), BVI, MKS and ArcGIS is preferred.
* Familiarization with Orbital Mechanics and/or mission command and telemetry concepts and operations is preferred.
