Job Summary

The Business Automation Specialist is responsible for gathering, assessing and identifying business needs for Personal Lines Actuarial R&D and Regulatory Filing Implementation automation software systems and procedures. In addition to overseeing automation processes are established and running effectively, will also be consulting, partnering and interacting with senior leaders and other stakeholders on potential improvements to the automation process. The Business Automation Specialist will gather as well as create documentation to address change requests, investigate, troubleshoot, test, and implement solutions to various business automation issues, identify continuous improvement opportunities and assist with training business users on any process changes. Furthermore is also accountable for generating reports related to production volumes, service times, errors/exceptions, and holdovers, as well as preparing change requests for approvals. May field complicated/escalated questions from stakeholders on automated status processes, impacted work queues, and production volumes. In coordination with their supervisor, will also be responsible for training on development and deployment tasks, as well as researching moderate to complex process errors.

Essential Job Functions

* Works with various business units within the Farmers Personal Lines Actuarial R&D and Regulatory Implementation group to draft and finalize Requirements, develop solution documents based on requirements and attain stakeholder approval to begin automation solution development.
* Tests the developed solution prior to business unit hand off for user acceptance testing (UAT) and deploys and monitors for defects and resolves any issues which many arise.
* Performs regular maintenance of automation codes, addresses errors due to unforeseen process or business application changes, and troubleshoots idle or under-performing automation resources.
* Responsible for forecasting and scheduling business automation, maximizing utilization of available automation resources/licenses, and assists in training business users in process changes as a result of automation.
* Consults with business leaders on identifying automation improvements and assesses as well as analyzes new business automation opportunities to increase system efficiencies and maximize quality.
* Coordinates with existing and potential business units/stakeholders to identify, facilitate as well as implement change requirements, and document process improvements.
* Responsible for daily administration of the live environment, such as ensuring automation software systems are running correctly, maintaining various resources (e.g. creating and viewing system report logs, rebooting system when needed, etc.), and problem solving of various complex day-to-day system related issues.
* In coordination with management, designs process solutions in accordance with the software design principles and conventions, while also using core workflow principles (Lean) that are efficient, well structured, maintainable and easy to understand.
* Analyzes, comprehends, and documents automated processes for procedural purposes.
* Manages and allocates process workflows to maximize outcome efficiencies and identifies as well as organizes resources needed to accomplish various system related tasks.
* Communicates across impacted functional teams on complex or escalated questions relating to production volumes, exceptions, key metrics and process changes.
* Prepares and delivers reports for stakeholders related to production volumes, service times, holdovers, and other system related data.
* Responsible for learning and performing Regulatory Filing core job responsibilities (preparing, submitting and maintaining Auto, Home and Umbrella Rate, Rule and Form filings as well as updating and maintaining all applicable and related product manuals and guides) in order to understand those job processes and functions that require automation, as well as to support filing responsibilities for volume control and project management.

Education Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Bachelors degree preferred.
* Lean Yellow Belt Certification preferred.
* Obtainment of Green Belt Certification within 12 months of hire is also preferred.

Experience Requirements

* Two years of business automation experience with Farmers or two years of comparable external business process automation experience, including one year of business analysis experience required.
* Software development and deployment experience as well as Visual Basic Application (VBA) or other Macro development experience required.
* Experience in automated software applications, with the ability to quickly learn functionality of future systems impacted required.

Special Skill Requirement

* Strong Excel skills with demonstrated Visio experience required along with proven problem solving, analytical and communication skills.

Additional Qualification

* Strong knowledge of existing end to end automated business processes, with knowledge of how systems integrate business applications and ability to foresee downstream impacts as a result of process changes.
