The Search Experience team defines and builds features that optimize the way customers search for, and find, what they are looking for on the global eBay Marketplace. From the latest technology to rare collectibles and antiques eBays inventory is unparalleled. With hundreds of millions of items listed on eBay at any time, the scale at which we operate puts us in a unique position to innovate and provide immediate value to the business. Our team works closely with Product Management, Data Science, Quality Engineering, Design, and other cross-domain organizations to build scalable solutions that are used by millions of customers across the globe every day. We are responsible for one of the most critical functions of the business, connecting our Sellers inventory with our Buyers demand, representing billions of dollars of goods and services bought on eBay annually.

The Role

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Search Experience team. The ideal candidate will possess a good balance of technology and people management skills; leads with empathy; has a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability. Cross-functional agility is essential and this leader will work closely with our Design, Product managers, and Engineering teams to create an industry-leading Search experience. This leader will have a deep passion for thinking end-to-end across a diverse set of teams, disciplines, and systems.

Responsibilities

* Lead a team that owns Front End experience across platform and devices including cross-browser, cross-platform- iOS and Android
* Instill culture of technical excellence, engineering best practices, and high quality product and strive for execution efficiencies
* Create vision and strategy for the technical org and inspire team to innovate
* Strong collaboration skills with the ability to drive planning and execution for the organization
* Understand the business goals and metrics, and enable your org towards achieving these goals
* Mentor and grow an energetic, diverse, and driven team with a good mix of talent across levels
* Ability to attract, retain and grow strong leaders within the organization
* Recruit and build great engineering talent, motivate and inspire them to do their best everyday

Required Qualifications

* 12+ years of software development experience
* Proven track record of leading a large engineering team working on front end development
* A minimum of 5+ years as a people manager managing teams of 20+ engineers
* Excellent cross-group collaboration, negotiation and communication skills
* Compelling leadership style that includes exceptional people management skills and a track record of grooming high performance teams
* Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
* Ability to deal with the ambiguity associated with working in a fast-paced environment
* Partner with Designers, Product Managers and partners from remote locations

Preferred

* Passion for designing and building scalable and innovative experiences
* Proven ability to earn respect, trust and influence from people you work with and to mentor top technical talent.
* BS/MS in information technology, computer science or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience..
* Able to set high standards and have demonstrated the ability to build and lead a high-performance team
