Solutia, Inc., a leading manufacturer of film interlayer products, has immediate opening for a Sheet Development Technician at its Springfield, MA location. A suitable candidate for this position would be very adaptable in capable of performing a wide variety of polymer processing operations such as extrusion, lamination, lab analysis and related work.
Responsibilities include:
* Work safely with others in a team and promote a safe work environment.
* Work closely in a team of technicians who operate a wide variety of polymer processing operations.
* Reliably execute regular tasks including raw materials transfer, extrusion line setup, startup and control, sheeting line adjustment, sheet handling, instrumentation setup and calibration, sampling and sample analysis, data collection, other extrusion related duties and run/test report writing
* Participate in mechanical installation and breakdown of various setups for routine lab processes.
* Quality Control testing of extruded sheet including data collection and data entry,
* Operation of SDC and SAP for raw materials and finished goods, equipment file organization, SAP data collection for maintenance.
* Proper recognition, record keeping and disposal techniques in lab quantity amounts for chemical hazardous wastes.
* Other offline responsibilities will be assigned on an as needed basis
Qualifications
* Associates Degree in a Technical Field or Technical Diploma required
* College level course work in math, engineering, or mechanical/electrical trade school is preferred.
* Prior hands-on experience with extruder setup including heaters, thermocouples and instrumentation is preferred.
* Familiarity with extrusion and process control systems (digital control systems; DCS) is preferred
* Familiarity with Quality systems, for example ISO, is preferred
* Must to be able to read, understand, and follow process flow diagrams, operating procedures, run plan instruction, process control flow charts and quality control lab procedures.
* Must be able to review mechanical drawings including piping and instrumentation, conduct equipment and safety reviews and support quality improvement projects.
* Ability to work with machinery in a pilot plant atmosphere.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Flexibility to work overtime and/or second shift as needed to meet project timing and requirements is desirable
* Must be able to lift materials up to 40 lbs and be on ones feet for eight-hour periods.
* Strong commitment to task and ability to organize, prioritize, and execute assignments in a high activity environment
* Clear and effective written and oral communication
* Demonstrated computer experience with standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
