What you will be doing

Reporting to the EVP of Wireless, the Head of Core Engineering will be given a unique opportunity to lead the development of a fully virtualized and cloud native 5G network. This leader will partner with the Technology Development team to take 3GPP-defined 5G core network functions from development through field deployment. The DISH Wireless 5G core will be based primarily on the use of 3GPP defined Containerized Network Functions (CNFs), which operate on a flexible compute platform. These functions, operating in conjunction with partner systems, will support standard 5GC functions such as network authentication, data transfer, mobility and charging, as well as systems for messaging and inter-carrier roaming. This position will be responsible for deployment and performance of those network functions. In this role, you will:

Lead and influence team members in core decisions;
Plan, organize and direct the design, implementation and management of a large scale enterprise mobile core;
Develop performance KPIs to be used by Network Operations;
Provide second-tier support to Network Operations to resolve complex issues;
Partner with product and other engineering teams to review, analyze and recommend system features and solutions to meet customer needs.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will bring a passion for working on new technologies in a fast-paced and evolving environment. He or she will be able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization. This individual will have a proven understanding of mobile networks, particularly LTE/5G standards.

The ideal candidate will have:

Project or team management experience for efforts associated with the Wireless Buildout Plan of Record;

Background in managing a vendor to the agreed upon SOW entrance/exit criteria;

Ability to thrive in a start-up environment with significant ambiguity and challenging problems inherent in building a greenfield 5G network;

Experience with 4G packet core engineering, integration or testing;

Strong understanding of 4G LTE EPC call-flow processing;

Working knowledge of virtualized EPC, NFVi, VNF.

Mastery of TCP/IP networking and a familiarity with TCP, UDP, SCTP, GTP, RADIUS, Mobile IP and Diameter protocols;

Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation: $113,400.00/Yr. - $203,850.00/Yr.
