The oncology market is a high value opportunity for CVS Health. However, managing oncology care remains a top challenge, due to a number of market forces: (1) Health plans and employers struggle to control spend; (2) No proven industry models exist to impact spend; (3) Complex patient population to manage; and (4) Proving value is difficult and slow due a small population, short-treatment durations and slow client ramp.

As a resource for our oncology solutions, this position will support Product Development in identifying and sizing business opportunities, establish measurement methodologies, produce critical insights, and build predictive modeling to optimize our solutions.
Our groups core competency is data science. However, were looking for people with additional talent and experience in 3 key spheres. Healthcare data experts. Help translate clinical hypotheses into insights and opportunities.
Were looking for data scientists with experience working with claims/healthcare data particularly those that have an understanding of its complexity, implications, and its scientific and/or clinical value.
Client-service orientated people. Our ability to be successful is a consequence of translating business and stakeholder needs into data science direction, and vice versa. We are looking for great interpersonal skills and an ability to reduce, and then present, complex business/data science concepts into digestible components oftentimes to executive leaders. Accountability and Integrity are important as we need to promote credible measurement and experimental design.
Research and Development data scientists. The candidate we seek has deep experience architecting and evaluating cutting edge mechanistic and empirical models. They need to have deep experience coding and developing pipelines, in coordination with our other analytic resources and our data engineering colleagues.
Required Qualifications
Oncology, as a focus for the organization is pioneering new opportunities in the space. As a data scientist supporting our portfolio of oncology products, you need to have strong client-service oriented skills, but the primary responsibility is being a product development champion. Specifically, a strong candidate is required to have:
Strong knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources. (ie. python and/or R, git, bash, and hive/sql.)
Proficiency in most areas of mathematical analysis methods, machine learning, statistical analyses, and predictive modeling and in-depth specialization in some areas.
Experience creating simplified visuals that express complex ideas and results using Powerpoint for executive level ingestion
Competence in data visualization tools like Tableau to gather insights and produce self service tools for business partners.
The ability to demonstrate an understanding of experimental design used to validate pilot performance of new concepts
5 or more years of progressively complex related experience in machine learning and statistical predictive modeling (Masters and PhD related work applies toward years of experience)
Preferred Qualifications
An understanding and experience in using healthcare claims data.
The ability to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously, while progressing each project forward.
Relevant experience in identifying new opportunities, understanding financial implications and building business cases to validate and prioritize projects.
Education
A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Physics, Engineering, or related discipline. Masters degree or PhD preferred.
