The role of the PCA is to provide bedside nursing care and treatment within their scope of training.

Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical, or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.

Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.

Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.

Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Assist or delivers direct patient care including bathing, grooming, feeding, toileting, repositioning, and ambulation with accurate and timely documentation in the medical record of patients.

Demonstrate ability to meet ADL of neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Obtain vital signs timely as ordered by the physician and documents in the MR. Has knowledge of normal variances in these values for all age groups. Notifies the charge nurse of abnormal values immediately.

Answers call lights without delay and responds to request or relays information in a timely manner.

Assist with transfers of patients.

Prepares room for receiving of patients.

Changes linens as needed.

Make rounds to check status of patients and reports needs or changes in condition to the appropriate nurse.

Assist with the collection of specimens: urine, stool, and sputum.

Ensures patient water pitchers are filled and snacks are offered.

Documents on the nursing progress record, and other patient care forms.

Receives report and gives report to oncoming shift.

Performs CPR and maintains current CPR certification.

Assist with the cleaning of the unit by maintaining cleanliness and organization of supplies.

Prepares patients for discharge.

Performs job duties within their scope of training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

High SchoolDiploma or GED required. Kentucky Certified Nursing Assistant certificationpreferred. Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Associationrequired. Previous experience with acute care, long term care, and pediatriccare preferred.

Basicrequired skills include; organizational, customer relations, math,grammar/spelling, the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English,the ability to follow written and oral direction, and computer training.
